Afrobeats sensation Davido is set to debut his eagerly awaited single ‘Flex My Soul‘ on the prestigious Billboard X Honda stage. As the head of DMW, Davido has spearheaded the global dissemination of African music for over a decade, and in a recent interview with Billboard, the Grammy-nominated artist reflects on his remarkable journey.
In a behind-the-scenes video titled “Davido Welcomes All to His World of Music, Honda Stage x Billboard,” shared by Billboard, Davido delves into his musical origins and the burgeoning global appeal of Afrobeats.
The acclaimed artist reminisces about his initial fascination with music, tracing it back to the lively gatherings hosted by his mother.
“My mom used to throw a lot of parties when I was young and from there, it can of like form into me loving music,” Davido said.
Davido kicked off his career as a producer before transitioning into singing. Despite never envisioning himself as an artist, he skyrocketed to music stardom with his debut single.
“In my head at that time I never think I would be in the forefront, be an artist. One day one of my cousins decided to release one my songs as me and when I move back to Nigeria I just took it on full time”.
Davido also expresses his fondness for collaborations, highlighting his passion for integrating artists into his creative realm.
“My first single was a collaboration, so I love collaborating, especially like bringing them to my world,” Davido said referring to his first single ‘Back When’ featuring Naeto C, which he also produced.
During the interview, Davido also sheds light on his single ‘Flex My Soul,’ which he had previously teased. He alludes to a female guest feature on the track, and he appears poised to perform on the Billboard Honda Stage.
