“I did not feel welcomed” – Beyoncé addresses country music backlash

In anticipation of her upcoming album, “COWBOY CARTER,” Beyoncé has unveiled that the project draws inspiration from a personal experience of feeling marginalized within the country music genre. Today, on March 19, she took to Instagram to share the official cover of the album and express her gratitude to fans for their support of the tracks “16 CARRIAGES” and “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM.”

“I feel honored to be the first Black woman with the No. 1 single on the Hot Country Songs chart,” she wrote. “That would not have happened without the outpouring of support from each and every one of you. My hope is that years from now, the mention of an artist’s race, as it relates to releasing genres of music, will be irrelevant.”

She continued, “This album has been over five years in the making. It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed… and it was very clear that I wasn’t. But, because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of country music and studied our rich musical archive.”

Beyoncé also addressed how the criticism served as motivation for her to transcend limitations with “COWBOY CARTER.” She emphasized, “act ii is a result of challenging myself and taking my time to blend and fuse genres together to craft this body of work.” Furthermore, she revealed that the project would not be confined to a single genre, asserting, “This isn’t a country album. This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album.”

In addition, the music icon hinted at potential collaborations with “brilliant artists” whom she admires. In February, speculation arose among fans regarding a possible collaboration with Taylor Swift on “COWBOY CARTER.” These rumors were fueled by “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” producer Killah B’s interview with TMZ, where he didn’t rule out the possibility.

Furthermore, earlier this month, Dolly Parton expressed optimism about Beyoncé potentially covering or sampling her hit song “Jolene” on the LP, raising anticipation for exciting musical partnerships on the upcoming album.
