    • ‘Afrobeats is used to describe African musicians, it is not a style of music’ – Davido reveals

Davido: Afrobeats is not a style of music.

Nigerian music sensation Davido has contributed to the ongoing discussion surrounding Afrobeats and R&B, offering insights into the nuanced distinctions between the two genres.

In a resurfaced video, Davido articulated his perspective on the matter, highlighting the differences between R&B and Afrobeats.

He acknowledged notable R&B artists like Johnny Drille, Chike, and Banky W, noting that some of his own tracks align with the R&B genre. Contrary to common misconceptions, Davido clarified that Afrobeats is not a distinct style of music but rather a term used to categorize African musicians.

Davido emphasized the cultural significance embedded within Afrobeats, underscoring its roots in African musical traditions.

He also discussed the evolving nature of Afrobeats, citing examples such as Odumodublvck, an African hip-hop artist primarily known for drill music but still classified under the Afrobeats genre.

Additionally, Davido attributed the original sound of Afrobeats to the legendary Fela Kuti, tracing its origins back to his pioneering contributions.

As Afrobeats continues to garner global recognition, Davido’s remarks shed light on the genre’s dynamic evolution and enduring cultural relevance.

Davido recently expressed admiration for Grammy-winning Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo, acknowledging her role in paving the way for a new generation of African artists, including himself.

Davido highlighted Kidjo’s exceptional representation of the continent on the global stage throughout the years, citing her as an inspiration for artists like him.

Delighted by his recent collaboration with the legendary musician, Davido expressed his longstanding desire to work with her.
