Angelique Kidjo opened global doors for African artists – Davido
Renowned Nigerian artist Davido has expressed admiration for Grammy-winning Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo, acknowledging her role in paving the way for a new generation of African artists, including himself.
Davido highlighted Kidjo’s exceptional representation of the continent on the global stage throughout the years, citing her as an inspiration for artists like him.
Delighted by his recent collaboration with the legendary musician, Davido expressed his longstanding desire to work with her.
Recall, Davido collaborated with Angelique Kidjo and The Cavemen on the track titled ‘Na Money,’ which is featured on his Grammy-nominated album, ‘Timeless.’
In a recent interview with CNN’s Inside Africa, Davido remarked, “I’ve always been wanting to work with Mama Africa [Angelique Kidjo], that’s what we call her, for a long long time.
“She can perform anywhere and for different crowds. And she has represented us so well, you know, on the global scene. She opened doors for new artists like myself.”
The musical sensation Davido recently unveiled the music video for his hit track “Away,” featuring appearances from Real Madrid players. The star-studded video showcased football players such as Vinicius Jr, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Jude Bellingham, David Alaba, and Toni Rudiger.
In addition to this exciting release, the Afrobeat icon announced the completion of his highly anticipated fifth studio album. Davido made the revelation during a live stream with Kai Cenat.
During their interaction, the DMW boss disclosed that his new album is fully finalized, comprising 15 tracks and featuring collaborations with six other artists. Fans can anticipate another impressive musical offering from the king of Afrobeat.
Furthermore, Davido provided a recent update on the progress of his project. Following the release of the “Away” music video, a track from his album “Timeless,” he took to Twitter to share the news, stating, “Away out! One more to go! Then WE GO AGAIN!!!”
