Why I quit smoking weed – Bella Shmurda
Nigerian artist Bella Shmurda has candidly shared his reason for quitting smoking weed, citing anxiety as the primary factor.
The ‘Cash App‘ crooner revealed that he made the decision to stop smoking weed four years ago due to his apprehension about the future.
While he acknowledged that he still indulges in smoking cigarettes, Bella Shmurda’s decision to abstain from marijuana reflects his personal journey towards managing anxiety and prioritizing his mental health.
Speaking in the latest episode of the ‘In My Opinion’ podcast, Shmurda said: “I don’t smoke igbo [weed]. I used to but I started having anxieties smoking weed. I started getting scared of the future.
“So, four years ago, I stopped smoking weed. I just take cigarettes and liquor.”
He said contrary to claims that smoking weed boosts creativity, “it wasn’t helping the creativity in my case.”
“Everything I was doing when I was smoking weed, I was having anxieties. At a point, it was affecting me in the studio. I would just be lost in the middle. It wasn’t working anymore. I just have to stop. That was earlier in my career. It wasn’t helping.”
In a recent documentary produced by WeTalk Sound focusing on the artist, Shmurda revealed that becoming a father has motivated him to strive for improvement. He emphasized how his son serves as a source of inspiration, compelling him to aspire to greatness. Additionally, Shmurda expressed his determination to establish a legacy that would bring pride to his child.
“I think fatherhood inspired me. What’s in my head is ‘Wetin’ this boy go see in the next 10 years?’ I don’t want him to see my old videos, I want him to see the new Bella who is still doing things. I don’t want him to hear ‘history’ like his daddy used to sing. I want to be the type of father that when he turns on the TV, he’d see and then say ‘That’s my daddy’, that’s what I want to be to my child. He’s an inspiration to me,” he said.
