Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ named the biggest African single of 2023 on the IFPI charts.

Rema’s sensational hit track ‘Calm Down,’ featuring Selena Gomez on the remix, has been acclaimed as the biggest African single of 2023 and the second biggest global single of the same year.

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) officially announced this remarkable achievement on its year-end chart, confirming that ‘Calm Down‘ by Rema set new records and broke existing ones. The song secured the number two spot on the chart, marking the highest peak position ever attained by an African song.

In describing this milestone, the IFPI stated, “The Top 10 also saw first ever IFPI Global Chart appearances for artists from Nigeria (with Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ featuring Selena Gomez at #2) and Mexico (with Yng Lvcas and Peso Pluma’s ‘La Bebe’ at #6), reflecting the global rise of the Afrobeats and Regional Mexican genres in 2023.”

Rema’s ‘Calm Down‘ has not only captivated African audiences but has also resonated on a global scale, affirming the growing influence and popularity of Afrobeats music worldwide.
