I never intended to marry a musician – Simi
Nigerian artist Simi revealed in a recent interview on the ‘Tea With Tay’ podcast that she never planned to marry a musician. She shared the story of how she met her husband, Adekunle Gold, stating that she initially encountered him as a graphics designer.
Simi recounted that, at the time, she thought Adekunle was a fan who had been patiently waiting to connect with her on Facebook. This revelation adds a charming and unexpected twist to their love story, highlighting the unpredictable and serendipitous nature of their meeting.
In Simi’s words, “When I first met my husband, I didn’t know he was singing because me I already said I cannot marry a singer. I didn’t know he was singing, I think he was even a fan.”
Simi revealed that even though she didn’t realize Adekunle was a singer, they began dating because he “was a really nice guy.”
In a 2023 interview with The Beat 99.9 FM, Simi reiterated her preference not to marry a musician and shared additional details about her relationship with Adekunle Gold. The 35-year-old artist disclosed that they dated for five years before tying the knot in 2019.
During the interview, Simi recalled the moment they reconnected at one of her concerts. Adekunle Gold, attending the show, caught her attention with his slim physique, clad in white BYC and jeans. Despite her initial reservations, she found his “niceness” compelling and agreed to date him.
Simi narrated, “I don’t remember how we eventually linked up again. I had a show at Bogobiri, and he turned up. He was very slim at that time with white BYC and jeans. He came to see me perform. I was like, ‘Oh hey!’ He was like, ‘Oh! I’m such a fan.’ And I was like, ‘Okay!’ (laughs).”
Their friendship developed from there, and over time, Adekunle Gold’s persistent and genuine demeanor won her over. Simi acknowledged his kindness and, despite her initial reservations, realized she didn’t mind being with a “nice guy.” This insight adds a personal touch to their journey from friendship to marriage.
