Davido gives upcoming artists tips on how to succeed
Nigerian singer and songwriter Davido has shared valuable advice with aspiring musicians, emphasizing the importance of originality on their path to success. In a video chat on Fuse, the Grammy nominee encouraged up-and-coming artists to embrace uniqueness in their artistic endeavors.
Reflecting on his own journey, Davido recounted his decision to move from the United States to Nigeria, seeking to create music that differed from the Western norm. The ‘FIA‘ crooner highlighted how the distinctive sound he cultivated in Nigeria eventually propelled him to superstar status back in the United States.
As the head of DMW, Davido emphasized the significance of standing out creatively for emerging artists, underscoring the idea that originality is a key element in making a lasting impact in the music industry.
Sharing the video, he wrote, “My advice to all aspiring creatives / artists: BE ORIGINAL Standing out from the pack is always better than fitting in ⏳”
Davido said, “If I could give advice to aspiring musicians, just be original. I used to live in America. I could have stayed just done what everybody else was doing.
“My calling was to go back home [Nigeria] and represent the culture [Afrobeats] and eventually, it still brought me back out here. But everybody else has their own path. The most important thing is be original.”
In another post, he added, “Speak when necessary. The words carry more value then.”
