Apple Music has announced that Qing Madi, an emerging Afrobeats singer-songwriter from Benin City, is the latest featured artist in its Up Next artist development program in Nigeria.
At the age of 17, Qing Madi expresses her excitement about being chosen for Apple Music’s Up Next program, emphasizing her desire to give a voice to teenagers across Nigeria and Africa and affirming the validity of their dreams.
Qing Madi’s journey began in Benin City, where she showcased her talent in school talent shows and church choir performances. Despite her youth, her exceptional vocal abilities earned her a place in the adult choir.
Recognizing her unique talent, Qing Madi’s mother enrolled her in a local ballet academy, providing a platform to nurture her creativity. This move proved beneficial as Qing Madi won several dance awards, and the experience helped shape her musical skills, teaching her how to memorize lyrics and define her sound.
Influenced by her heritage and inspired by the lyrical prowess of Kendrick Lamar, Qing Madi’s debut single ‘See Finish’ (2022) went viral on TikTok and reached #51 on Apple Music’s Nigeria Top 100 songs chart. Her latest single, ‘Journey‘ (2023) blends Afrobeats, pop, soul, and R&B, solidifying her presence as a versatile artist.
As the newest Up Next artist in Nigeria, Qing Madi, who recently released her debut EP ‘Qing Madi,’ will be featured across Apple Music’s Up Next playlist.
