Joeboy offers financial help to UNILAG students in reaction to an increase in tuition fees.
Joeboy, a prominent Nigerian musician, has stepped in to offer financial assistance to students at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in response to the recent tuition fee increase.
UNILAG had recently raised tuition fees to a range between N120,000 and N170,000, leading to protests by students who demanded a reversal of the decision. Although the management reduced the fees by approximately 10 percent, the new amounts were still a significant increase.
Joeboy, an alumnus of UNILAG, empathized with the current students and decided to help by covering the tuition fees for some of them. He mentioned that during his time at UNILAG, the tuition fee was only N20,000, and he expressed concern for how students were managing to afford the new N100,000 fee.
To assist as many students as possible, he offered to pay their tuition fees and requested that they provide proof of their payment slips to be eligible for his support fund. This gesture from Joeboy demonstrates his commitment to alleviating the financial burden faced by UNILAG students.
Joeboy tweeted,“Unilag school fees during my time was 20k and a lot of people were still struggling to pay. I can’t imagine how hard it is for students now that it’s over 100k. Please send me a DM with your payment slip if you need assistance. I’ll help as many people as I can.”
