Ruger shares his thoughts on the death of Mohbad

Nigerian Afrobeat singer Ruger has said that the late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, commonly known as Mohbad,’s issues were caused as much by his fans as by his previous record label Marlian Music.

The Nigerian police force launched an investigation into Mohbad’s death last month because of the odd circumstances surrounding it.

In a recent interview on the “Afrobeats Podcast” with the UK-based media personality Adesope Olajide, Ruger discussed the circumstances surrounding the untimely death of Mohbad.

He claimed that the only reason supporters backed him was because he identified as a Marlian, and he blamed them for Mohbad’s problems. But the record label abandoned him when he split with them. The singer of “Asiwaju” urged the late musician’s supporters, particularly those who were grieving over his passing, to take stock of their behavior. Because they stopped promoting his music and his troubles increased as a result, he feels they bear some responsibility.

In his words, “I don’t know whether the label was Mohbad’s problem or not. I just want you all to know, not only his label was his problem, the fans were his problem too; the fans added to it. Because as soon as he left the label, I don’t think people continued to listen to him anymore.”

“I feel like if they kept the emergy….I feel like they were attached to the label like okay, he’s a Marlian and all of that. They were just attached to the fact that he was a Marlian. Then when he left there…..”
