Burna Boy defends Ghana jollof as he’s served ‘low-quality jollof’ claimed to be from the country
Nigerian Afro-fusion artist Burna Boy didn’t hesitate to champion Ghana Jollof when the chance presented itself, despite the ongoing friendly food rivalry between the two nations.
In a recent interview with Complex US, Burna Boy was presented with a range of jollof rice dishes from several African countries. After tasting each dish, he had to identify the country from which it came.
The dish on the chopping board was ‘Jollof’.
It is a West African rice-based dish that is often cooked with tomatoes, onions, spices, and vegetables, among other accompaniments.
Prior to tasting what he described as “low-quality jollof,” the singer appeared to have mastered the challenge when he received samples from Nigeria and Senegal.
Although he misidentified the third plate’s country of origin, speculating that it might be from Kenya, he wasn’t altogether off the mark when judging its quality.
Unfortunately for Burna Boy, his guess was incorrect, and he was informed that the jollof rice he deemed less flavorful actually hailed from Ghana.
He expressed his surprise by saying that this specific dish did not live up to his expectations because his encounters with Ghanaian jollof were totally different.
“Ghana jollof is way better than this even if Ghana jollof is bottom of my list, it is a lot better than this. The real Ghana jollof is a lot better than this,” he insisted.
