The singer reveals his musical genre.
In an interview, Nigerian Afro-pop artist Fireboy DML stated that he does not consider himself to be an Afrobeat artist and would not use the term.
Fireboy in the interview said that his school suffered as a result of him pursuing his goals of being an artist because he had always known he would do so. He continued by discussing his album and everything that served as inspiration for his first, second, and third albums.
He also discusses the type of musician he is, stating that he wouldn’t classify himself as an Afrobeat musician because his songs have elements of reggae, pop, and other musical genres. When asked what musical genre he sings, he said that he is simply an African musician and not an Afrobeat musician.

Recall, Fireboy’s ‘Bandana‘ featuring Asake has set a new record. According to TurnTable Chart, Nigeria’s foremost music chart publication, Fireboy’s hit single ‘Bandana‘ featuring Asake is the most streamed song in Nigeria.
The song has received an astounding 75 million streams across the whole country.
The huge popularity of the smash hit track, which was released in July 2022 as one of the lead singles from Fireboy’s third album “Playboy,” was largely attributed to Asake’s record-breaking run.
The YBNL star has previously wowed audiences with popular tunes such as ‘Jealous,’ ‘Spell,’ ‘Playboy,’ and ‘Peru,’ which achieved major international success following a remix with British megastar Ed Sheeran.
The phenomenal success of ‘Bandana‘ in Nigeria is a testament to Fireboy’s talent and Asake’s fame, which has seen him dominate the mainstream since his debut with ‘Omo Ope’ in January 2022.
