I became homeless, slept in my car for months after I left Banky W’s record label – Skales
In a recent interview, Nigerian Afrobeat singer Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, better known by his stage name Skales has revealed leaving Banky W’s record label Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) penniless and how his life drastically changed after that.
Skales revealed this in a recent interview with Beat 99.9 FM, Lagos, where he claimed that after EME failed to renew his recording contract, he decided to become homeless and sleep in his car.
The “Shake Body” singer stated that once EME management forced him out of their residence, he went from living a luxurious lifestyle to being bankrupt.
Skales also acknowledged that he had thought of relocating abroad prior to the popularity of his song “Shake Body” and the consequent transformation in his life.
Despite the singer’s claim that he had no money for promotion, the song went off like wildfire.
He said, “When I left EME, I had nothing. Everything just ended in one day. I went from enjoying a luxurious life to sleeping in the car. As soon as my deal ended, I lost the house, they [EME management] told me to leave the house immediately.
“All I had was one car, a Ford Explorer. And I was sleeping inside the car for a long time. Little did I know that I had a song that was going to change my life on my flash drive. So months later, I just put out the song [‘Shake Body’].
“I didn’t have any promo money, nothing. I just uploaded it on Soundcloud. And it was just a wildfire. It was crazy. I didn’t even know the song was big. I believed, but I gave up because I was trying to japa [relocate abroad]. Then I got a call from Harry Tee, God rest his soul. That was how my life changed.”
