Nigerian Afrobeat artist Tiwa Savage has shared a humorous anecdote about vowing not to reveal any more secrets to her mother after a previous experience.
In an interview with MTV UK, Tiwa Savage recounted an incident when she informed her mother, with the condition of secrecy, that she would be performing at a significant event. However, her mother promptly shared the news with her brother within 20 minutes, violating the trust.
“When I got the call about performing at the King’s coronation, I didn’t tell a lot of people at first. But eventually, I told my mum and as always I was like, ‘Mum, please don’t tell anyone.’ Then literally 20 minutes later, my brother is calling me, he was like, ‘Oh my gosh!’ And I’m like, ‘Mum, wow! So, I’m not telling my mum anything again.'”
Tiwa Savage’s performances at King Charles III’s coronation concert and Big Lunch in March marked her as the first Nigerian performer to grace the stage at a British royal event. Initially, she was unaware of the magnitude of the occasion and her unique role in representing the Commonwealth.
She described the experience as “iconic” and an honor to have represented the Commonwealth at the event.
