These Nigerian artists have not only broken records beyond the of Nigeria but found themselves in the good books of the Guinness World Record.

Achieving Guinness World Records status has never been a small feat.

Due to fortitude and perseverance, both young and old Nigerians, like people from other countries throughout the world, are proud Guinness World Records holders.

Anyone can strive to be listed among the Guinness World Records holders for anything, regardless of age, gender, or race, as long as they are prepared to put in the necessary effort.

Here are Nigerian artists who are Guinness World Record holders:

The Headies (formerly the Hip Hop World Awards), were inaugurated by Hip Hop World Magazine in 2006 to honour outstanding achievements in Nigerian music. British-born rapper Modenine (aka Babatunde Olusegun Adewale, Nigeria) has, appropriately enough, won nine Headies: Best Rap Album (Malcolm IX – The Lost Sessions, 2006), Best Rap Single (“Cry”, 2007) and seven “Lyricist on the Roll” awards (2006–11 and 2013).

    FELA KUTI

Wizkid has been described as a national treasure by many, and given his vault of accolades and milestones, this description has been proven time and time again. The first was Drake’s global smash song, One Dance, on which he was featured, co-produced, and co-composed.

The song, a collaboration between an American megastar and an African megastar, received over 880 million streams as of October 18, 2016, according to a Spotify announcement. The Guinness Book of World Records declared it to be the most-streamed song on Spotify the following year after it had accumulated over a billion listens.

Wizkid also has several records on the Guinness World book including Most awards won by an Artist at the All Africa Music Awards in a single year, Most awards won at the All Africa Music Awards, Most Artist of the Year awards won at the All Africa Music Awards.

On 29 November 2022, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) announced that “Calm Down” by the Nigerian rapper Rema (b. Divine Ikubor) had become the first No.1 on The Official MENA Chart – the world’s first regional music streaming chart and the first-ever official chart in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

The weekly Top 20 collects data from the major streaming platforms across 13 MENA countries, covering a population of more than 300 million people combined: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates.

The Official MENA Chart monitors streams from Apple Music, Deezer, Spotify, YouTube and Anghami – the Arab world’s first legal streaming/download platform, which was initially launched in Lebanon in 2012.
