Ronaldo vs Messi: Van Gaal reveals his choice.
Dutch former football player and manager Louis van Gaal has spoken in on the GOAT discussion between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Despite now being in the latter stages of their respective careers, Ronaldo and Messi still generate conflicting opinions among football authorities and supporters.
Both players have won 12 Ballon d’Or awards between themselves.
The former Manchester United head coach preferred Ronaldo over Messi because Ronaldo is a better team player.

Van Gaal told Onda Cero:
“And the big question, [Lionel] Messi or Cristiano [Ronaldo]? The best players of this period are Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Choosing between them is difficult.
“Ronaldo has more results than Messi in titles. Messi has more individual awards, but Ronaldo is more of a team player.
“So you’ve to choose, I am more of a team coach than an individual player. Messi may be the best football player, but you have to play as a team.”
