Xavi lambasts Barcelona flops after ‘worst performance of the season’ in Almeria loss.
Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez was furious following his team’s unexpected loss to Almeria in La Liga on Sunday.
Almeria, who entered the game in 19th position, shocked the league’s top team when El Bilal Toure scored the game’s lone goal in the 24th minute. Xavi, who dubbed the team’s performance the worst of the season, was understandably dissatisfied.
Speaking to reporters, he said: “This was our worst match of the season. I’m very pissed off. It was too difficult. We weren’t there. We weren’t inside the match. There are no excuses today. We didn’t deserve to win and we have to take responsibility. I’m very pissed off.

“We lacked passion in the first half. In the second half, we tried everything… 3-4-3, Araujo as a striker… Nothing. It wasn’t meant to be. It was not enough. If we don’t change our mental chip now, it will cost us the league title.”
The Catalan giants still hold a commanding seven-point lead at the top despite the outcome. This was also their first domestic loss since losing to Real Madrid in October, and it was only their eighth La Liga goal of the year.
On March 2, Xavi’s team will play their next game in El Clasico when they take on Real Madrid in the first leg of their Cup del Rey semi-final match.
