I single-handedly took Afrobeats to great heights – Speed Darlington.
US-based Nigerian singer and rapper, Darlington Okoye popularly known as Speed Darlington, has acknowledged his contribution to Afrobeats, claiming that he propelled the genre to new heights.
Speedy as he is fondly said contributed more significantly to the genre than Grammy-winning artiste, Burna Boy.
In a recent episode of the Be Grounded podcast, the controversial musician made this claim while mentioning that he is also a music producer.
He said that he produced the majority of the songs he put out, including the duet titled “I’m In love With My Hand” with Zlatan Ibile.
Speed Darlington bemoaned the fact that while other Afrobeats artists have not accomplished as much as he has, they are nonetheless more well-known and praised.
He remarked that there is no way he will rejoice after witnessing coworkers, whom he is confidently superior to, get more workloads and expand in growth.

In an interview on the Be Grounded podcast, Speed Darlington joins Bond to discuss the growth of Afrobeats in America
Akpi as Speed is fondly called, also shared his thoughts on some Nigerian artists like Tems, Zlatan, Flavour, and Phyno.
He also spoke about his use of social media and future plans for his music.
The interviewer enquired into Darlington’s current state of relationship with Zlatan as the two have not been seen together in a while.
Speed Darlington disclosed that he and the “Zanku” crooner are still on good terms, even disclosing that Zlatan once came to his rescue when he had a gun-related problem in Lagos.
According to him, he was billed and called the rapper for help and Zlatan came to his rescue with law enforcement Officers.
Akpi stated that he and the rapper don’t talk every day but they are on good terms.
