Chelsea-linked Fernandez can leave Benfica if €120m release clause is met, confirms club president.
Benfica club president Rui Costa has revealed that Enzo Fernandez, who has been linked to Chelsea, will be permitted to leave the club in January if his €120m release clause is met.
As the transfer rumour mill heats up in front of the mid-season window opening, talk about Fernandez after his standout World Cup with Argentina persists.
Liverpool and Manchester United have been connected with a bid for the midfielder, but Chelsea appears to be the most aggressive suitor as claims surfaced that they are prepared to pay more than £106 million to sign him. Rui Costa, the president of Benfica, has since spoken on the potential for a January sale.

Speaking to DAZN, Costa conceded: “We don’t want to give up Enzo Fernandez in January, but we are willing to please the boy in the event of a €120 million offer.”
As La Albiceleste made it all the way to the World Cup final and won the competition, Fernandez was named the best young player. Graham Potter will likely receive a revitalized team from Chelsea thanks to their new ownership structure.
In order to assist the transfer of Fernandez, who is about to depart Benfica just six months after joining the team from River Plate, it was revealed earlier this week that the Blues are willing to let Jorginho go.
The 21-year-old might be on his way to Stamford Bridge soon if Chelsea is truly keen on signing him, although he is scheduled to return to play for Benfica on Friday against Braga in the Primeira Liga.
