Sadio Mane has reacted to Senegal’s World Cup defeat to England by claiming he is “very proud” of his Senegal teammates after their World Cup run was ended by England.

Senegal, the reigning African champion, lost to England 3-0 on Sunday at the Al Bayt Stadium.

Gareth Southgate’s team advanced to the quarterfinals with goals from Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane, and Bukayo Saka, setting up an exciting matchup with the World Cup champions France.

Senegal’s World Cup campaign was cut short by Mane’s injury, but he expressed his pride in his teammates for making it out of Group A and into the round of 16 before falling to England.

‘Dear brothers, you have fallen into arms,’ said Mane, who left Liverpool to join Bayern Munich last summer.

‘The people are very proud of your journey and you have put the balm in the hearts of Senegalese and all supporters by defending the national flag with dignity.

‘Continue learning and good luck. We will go in search of more Trophies Inshallah.’
