After the Germany national team was eliminated from the 2022 World Cup in the group stage, Thomas Muller admitted he was unsure whether he had played his final match for Germany.

With 44 goals, Muller ranks seventh among all German scorers, and he is tied for eighth in the World Cup scoring charts after scoring ten goals among players like Gary Lineker and Gabriel Batistuta.

Muller has made 120 appearances for Germany since his national team debut in 2010, and he was a key member of the team that won the 2014 World Cup.

On Thursday night, Germany needed Japan to lose to Spain in order to have any chance of qualifying, but the Samurai Blue shocked everyone by winning 2-1, negating Germany’s 4-2 victory against Costa Rica.

Muller issued a speech following the game that many fans thought would be his last.

“It’s ab absolute disaster,” Muller told reporters. “I don’t know how to move forward.

“If that was my last game, then I would like to say a few words to the German football fans. It was an enormous pleasure. Thank you very much. I always tried to show heart on the pitch. Something they were tears of joy, sometimes pain. I did it with love.

“I need to think about everything now.”
