Dami Oniru is Spotify’s Fresh Finds Africa Artiste of November.
Dami Oniru is the newest Spotify Fresh Finds Africa artist, getting the nod for November.
The calming Soul and R&B singer-turned-producer will be featured on the playlist under the same name as the Fresh Finds Africa artist for the month and will also have access to programs and tools designed to encourage musicians to have long and successful careers.
Commenting on Dami Oniru’s selection, Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa says: “The Fresh Finds Africa programme is designed to elevate exciting talent and Dami Oniru is one of the most impressive new voices on the continent. We’re excited to expose her to new audiences and give her opportunities to take the next step as an artist.”
Born Bri’ana Oniru Edwards, Dami Oniru first broke out with the hit single Iyawo and her sophomore single Fallin. Following a handful of guest verses on both sides of a brief hiatus, she released her debut EP Bri’s Lounge in 2019
Dami Oniru’s music harmonises R&B, soul and African instruments, with a sprinkling of trap. An inspired artist, Dami sees music as her second nature. Her moniker comes from a studio session where she randomly sang her name and envisioned people singing back. To bring that dream to life, she has managed to interweave three facets of a career: music, fashion and tech, while setting her own standards for herself.

Coming just as her new EP sates old fans, Dami Oniru is inspired by the opportunity to join a roll call of amazing talent, and be exposed to even more new ears.
“It’s an absolute honour to be chosen as Spotify’s Fresh Finds Africa artist for November 2022. I’ve always hoped to reach heights where anyone can have access to and connect with my music, so this is a dream come true,” the singer says.
Earning great reviews, her new EP Matter of Time has been described as her most cohesive project yet. She produced it herself, alongside longtime friend and collaborator, Remy Baggins, and it captures the singer’s range in melody and vivid lyrics. She paints snapshots of her growth, experiences and aspirations in songs like Emotions and Soft Life.
