According to reports, Todd Boehly, a co-owner of Chelsea, has made a decision about Graham Potter amid claims he could lose his job following the team’s third straight Premier League loss to Newcastle on Saturday.

When Chelsea made the decision to fire Thomas Tuchel in September, Potter was possibly the club’s unexpected choice in replacement. However, after only two months in charge at Stamford Bridge, pressure is already building upon his head.

Chelsea has lost four of their last five games overall after the 1-0 loss at St. James’ Park. They are now in fourth place, eight points behind Tottenham, despite having a game in hand.

As a result, rumours have started to spread that Potter’s stay at the club might not last long. Furthermore, recent history does little to assuage concerns about the Englishman’s future.

The last Chelsea head coach to suffer three straight league defeats was Jose Mourinho in 2015, who was fired from his position at Stamford Bridge.

Furthermore, there is a huge portion of fans at Chelsea who remain to be convinced by Potter. The 1-0 loss at Newcastle was no less than they deserved and there are fears among some fans that the job is just too big for him.

After the game, Potter admitted his team were overrun with comments that have not gone down too well.

However, despite the poor run of form, according to The Athletic, Potter still has Chelsea’s ‘total backing’.

Citing sources, who want to remain anonymous to protect their jobs, The Athletic claims Boehly has no intention of calling time on his reign.

They have made it clear that they are in it for the long haul with the 47-year-old and their support for his reign remains unwavering.

Indeed, the report claims it was communicated to Potter even before their defeat at St James’ Park. And the outlet stressed that the support is not seen as a ‘vote of confidence’ that can often come before the sack.

However, they do stress that the break in the league campaign has come at a very good time for Chelsea and Potter.
