Jurgen Klopp addresses Nunez’s horror miss for Liverpool vs Ajax.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has addressed Darwin Nunez’s horror miss against Ajax, suggesting even the striker himself may be surprised he didn’t score.
Nunez had the opportunity to make it 2-0 for Klopp’s team in Amsterdam shortly after Mohamed Salah gave them the lead. The striker only needed to touch the ball into the goal after Roberto Firmino fizzed it across the goal area into his feet. Everyone in the stadium was shocked as to how he missed as the ball blasted off the post instead.
Klopp addressed the miss after the game, telling BT Sport: “I think even he was surprised! [when Firmino passed for the shot on the woodwork]. He had a really good game in both directions, helped defending and played with a big heart today so hopefully we took him off early enough!”

Nunez’s miss ultimately didn’t matter all that much. Four minutes into the second half, the Uruguayan made apologies by scoring his fourth goal in five games by tipping in a header. After then, Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over the Reds insured that they would advance to the round of 16 in the Champions League.
After faltering against Nottingham Forest, Liverpool needed a pick-me-up and got it from this victory. A struggling Leeds travels to Anfield on October 28 as Klopp’s side looks to find some consistency in the Premier League.
