Erik ten Hag provides an update on Raphael Varane as details of the Manchester United star’s injury emerge.

After the defender was forced off during Manchester United’s dramatic 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Saturday night at Stamford Bridge, manager Erik ten Hag gave fans an update on Raphael Varane’s injury blow.
Raphael Varane, a defender for Manchester United, reportedly suffered a significant injury against Chelsea that may prevent him from competing in the World Cup.
Varane was taken off early in the second half at Stamford Bridge after twisting his ankle while attempting to intercept a pass for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
He left the pitch in tears, punching the corner flag in anger and pulling his shirt over his face to cover his anguish. Victor Lindelof took his place, and United went on to score Casemiro’s first club goal to grab a late equalizer.

Varane appears to be suffering from a severe and protracted injury, which may be disastrous for the France international with the World Cup less than a month away.
Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, gave an update following the game, but as was predicted, more information on the injury is still pending.

‘Nothing in this moment,’ the Dutchman, who consoled Varane as he went off, said.
We have all seen he came off but with an injury like this we always have to wait a minimum 24 hours and the medical staff can do their job and can set the diagnosis. I can understand [his reaction], we can all probably understand he will be emotional but he also has to wait, you don’t know.
‘He’s experienced but the medicals have to do their job, have to make an assessment, set the right diagnosis and from there on come to the conclusion.’
Ten Hag also praised his teammates’ tenacity for rallying to save a point in the closing seconds of an attritional battle.
He added: “I want to value the spirit of the team. It was a tough game, it was fought and we went down, and I saw the body language from my players, but they found their belief in the last minutes and they fight back and got a well-deserved point.”
