Clarence Peters reveals how he cried when Burna Boy won his Grammy
Ace Nigerian music video director, Clarence Peters, has disclosed that he burst into tears when Afrobeats and Dancehall singer, Burna Boy won a Grammy award.
He said this when speaking on the Pulse Podcast Network, saying that the historic event had given him nostalgia and joy.
At the 2021 Grammy Awards, Burna Born, real name Damini Ogulu, won Best Global Music Album for “Twice as Tall.”
Clarence claimed that seeing the “Dangote” singer declared as the winner brought back memories of the great broadcasters Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo D1 Adeneye.
He also revealed that Kenny Ogungbe was the first person he called after hearing the news, but he did not pick up.

In his words;
Watching him win, really just…Because I cried, I cried because of where I flashed all the way back to Raypower. I flashed all the way back to Kenny and D1 from Raypower. It was almost in my head and everything just played…at every single point when you will have people telling you its can’t happen, and people will say it will happen but didn’t really believe it would happen. And wen I saw him win, the first person I called was Kenny but he didn’t pick at that time.”
The music director also spoke on how he felt being able to hoot Burna’s Grammy performance. He bragged about being the Michael Jordan of Nigerian Music Videos Directors.
“Being able to shoot the performance, people don’t understand one thing, If the Grammy happen now, then they would do it at the Grammy stage with their people. Beinga ble to shoot Burna’s performance and it being aired, that’s it.”
