The O2, a multi-purpose indoor venue with 20,000 seats, has hosted and sold out some of the largest performances by just a few Nigerian musicians, and here are the top 5 Nigerian female musicians who can fill the O2 Arena

African music heavyweights Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy are among these few.

Wizkid, a Nigerian superstar also named as Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, sold out London’s O2 arena in May 2018 before Burnaboy and Davido did the same.

On March 5, 2022, Davido will close the O2 Arena, something he only recently did.

Behind the Manchester Arena, the O2 Arena has the second-highest seating capacity of any indoor facility in the UK.

There is currently no significant instance of a female Nigerian musician hosting a performance at this prominent arena.

But there shouldn’t be anything stopping a female artist from performing at the O2 Arena and confidently selling it out.

Since there are several Nigerian female artists who are capable of pulling off this feat.

In this article, we focus on five female artists from Nigeria who, in our opinion, are capable of confidently closing down and selling out a show at the O2 Arena.

    Tiwa Savage

Tiwa Savage is a British-Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress. Born in Isale Eko, she relocated to London at 11 for her secondary education.

Five years later, she began her music career doing backup vocals for artists such as George Michael and Mary J. Blige.

After participating in the UK edition of The X Factor and graduating from Berklee College of Music, Savage signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing in 2009.

    Tems

Temilade Openiyi known professionally as Tems, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer.

    She rose to prominence when two of her songs reached the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2021, her collaboration with Drake on the song “Fountains” from his album Certified Lover Boy, and the Wizkid single “Essence”;

    Asa

Asa‘s music influences grew over the years from the collection of great music her father had built up for his work as a cinematographer.

These records feature American, Nigerian and African soul classics, Aṣa returned to France at the age of 20 to study at the IMFP school of Jazz music, where she was told by teachers that she should go ahead and become a recording artist because she was ready and needed no schooling.

Her first single, “Eyé Adaba,” was beginning to get airplay in Nigeria, Aṣa soon signed to Naïve Records.

Partnered with Cobhams Asuquo, and with the new involvement of Christophe Dupouy and Benjamin Constant, she produced her first platinum-selling self-titled album, Aṣa.

    Yemi Alade

Yemi Eberechi Alade, known by her fans by the stage name Yemi Alade was born on the 13th of March 1989 in Abia State, Nigeria.

She started her music career in 2005 but became famous after winning the Peak Talent Show in 2009.

One of the songs that got her to the top chart was “Johnny,” which has received over 20 million views on YouTube.

Yemi Alade sits in the second position on our list with an estimated net worth of $4.2 million.

    Sinach

Nigerian Gospel singer, Sinach has not just made a name for gospel singers in the country but also for female singers too.

In 2020 Sinach topped Billboard’s Christian songwriter charts for 7 weeks consecutively. This made Sinach the first African Christian musician to achieve such a feat.

The success of her tour in India that same year has shown that she can confidently sell out an event at the O2 too.
