Megan Thee Stallion honoured with ‘the key to the city’ by Houston Mayor.
On Sunday, Megan Thee Stallion was given her own day in Houston and a Key to the City.
The rapper was given the key to the city in a ceremony attended by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and members of the Houston City Council, with Megan Thee Stallion Day being designated on May 2 to honour her significant skill, philanthropy, and influence.

The 27-year-old Grammy-winning artist was also given a cowboy hat along with an official belt buckle.
While honouring the musician with the key, Turner said, “Megan Thee Stallion has an extraordinary entertainment career, but we wanted to honor her for what she does offstage to lift people’s lives in underserved communities.”
He continued: “Individuals who receive the key are responsible of upholding Houston’s values and represent the best this city offers.”
“In fact, the key is our commitment to those who represent Houston at its best,” he added.
During her speech, a tearful Megan Thee Stallion talked about the impact her mother and grandmother — who died within weeks of each other in March 2019 — have had on her life and wanting to follow in their footsteps.
“Both of these women helped me grow into the woman that I am today,” she said. “I don’t know what kind of lady I would be if granny didn’t raise me to be so kind and so giving. You could walk by these ladies’ house and they givin’ out dollars, candy—whatever they’ve got, they’re givin’ it out the door.”
