Mp3bullet.ng presents the major times Rema made headlines with his achievements.
In just four years of being in the music Industry, Rema has accomplished a lot of achievements, including releasing a lot of music, four projects (3 EPs and an album collection), music videos, and building a solid reputation in the field.
He is now the de facto leader of the new school. He is among the next generation of artists poised to unseat established performers like Wizkid and Davido, who are quickly outgrowing their operating territory.
Rema possesses everything. A record deal, a sizable fan base, but most importantly, a special talent or ability. No one else is as good at what he does as he is. He has been at the top of his game for the past four years because of it.
Here are the five major achievements that prove Rema is the king of the new school.
‘Iron Man’ appears on Barack Obama’s 2019 Summer Playlist
It was a major flex for Rema to be featured on former president Barack Obama’s summer playlist after only seven months in the Nigerian music Industry.
The absurd thing was that Obama chose the obscure Iron Man for his playlist even though Dumebi was the hottest Rema song that year.
Winning Next Rated at the Headies in 2020
From now until the following year, we can discuss the Headies Awards and its controversial way of picking its winners.
Rema receiving the Next Rated award in 2020, however, is one thing the Headies got right. They must have known that he would have a bright future full of bangers.
Being part of the soundtrack for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Rema stood out on tracks with Bloody Civilian and Aleman on an album that also featured Burna Boy, Rihanna, Tems, and Stormzy. Only two other artists have made more than three appearances on the Marvel soundtrack, and he is one of them.
Performing at the NBA All-Stars halftime show in 2023
The fact that Rema would perform at the NBA All-Stars game in 2023 alongside Tems and Burna Boy was a significant event for most Nigerians. Although Rihanna had just finished her performance at the Super Bowl, for us Nigerians, this was the real music and sports event of February.
“Calm Down” becoming the highest-charting African song on Billboard Hot 100.
Only two Nigerian artists have ever reached the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 Chart: Wizkid with Essence and One Dance and Tems with WAIT FOR U and Essence.
But Rema has now formally joined this list after his Calm Down remix, which features Selena Gomez, rose to the 19th position on the chart.
The song presently holds the record for the highest-charting African song on the Billboard Hot 100 after peaking at number six, smashing the previous record of number seven set by the artist.
“Calm Down” becoming the highest-streamed Nigerian song on Youtube
When the music video for his worldwide hit song “Calm Down” passed 400 million views on YouTube in March 2023, Rema became the first Nigerian artist to do so.
Rema’s Calm Down song is the first Afrobeat song to achieve this feat.
Initially, “Calm Down” became the fastest Nigerian video to reach 100 million views, doing so in less than three months.
That same year, it smashed two records by reaching 200 million and 300 million views, respectively, a few months apart.
