CEO of the popular DMW record label Davido is part of the few Afrobeat legends who have greatly impacted the Nigerian music industry.
Mp3bullet has put together a list of 5 music stars who Davido brought to the limelight.
Afrobeat and music originating from Africa have seen a renaissance over the last decade with many artists now not only topping charts on the continent but globally.
Davido‘s impact on the lives and careers of these music stars has not only brought fame but global recognition.
Mayorkun:
Adewale Mayowa professionally known as Mayorkun is one of the many acts OBO brought to fame.
Davido stumbled across Mayorkun whilst browsing through Twitter and seeing a video of him singing his “The Money” single.
OBO contacted him and asked him to send some songs over and he would get in touch.
Davido got back from L.A. and the first thing he did when he got back was to get in touch with Mayorkun to come to his house.
That night Mayorkun recorded his first song with Davido and moved in.
Shortly after he resigned from his job at a bank.
Mayorkun signed with his record label Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) in 2016 and released “Eleko” his debut single.
The video of the song gathered a million views in the first 10 days.
In November 2018, he released “The Mayor of Lagos“, his first album and it appeared on the Billboard World Albums chart, peaking at number 15.

Peruzzi:
The 31-year-old Peruzzi is one of the finest songwriters and performing artistes the Nigerian music industry has.
He started off his music career at a tender age when he started recording songs at age 7.
He began with Golden Boy Records in 2016, before getting signed to Davido Music Worldwide in 2018.
Though his signing to DMW was being disputed at some point because his former label boss Patrick Anyaene accused him of breaching a contract with his record label.
In a 17- tweet thread, Patrick narrated how he met him, helped him, signed him, and how he broke their contract.
Peruzzi started gaining prominence when he featured in 2Baba‘s hit song ‘Amaka‘ in 2018.
He released his own hit track Majesty in 2019 under his label DMW, and since then it’s been from fame to fame.
Dremo:
This DMW rap frontier is one whose rise to fame could not have been achieved without Davido’s help.
Started his music professionally in his first record label APPE Gang in 2013.
Apparently, he didn’t make it to stardom for over a year and a half.
However, he met Davido a week before his story changed, and got signed into DMW.
He recounts how he got a call from his friend Banko who is closely associated with OBO, that he has been signed into DMW.
Initially, he thought it was a prank because the day he got the call fell on the first of April which is associated with (April fool).
Few months after he signed into the label, he released his hit song Fela, since then he became a rolling stone.

DJ Ecool:
Born Ebianga Ikpeme, DJ Ecool is also a music producer and artist, whose affiliation with DMW brought him fame.
He is the official disc jockey for Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) boss, OBO.
Ecool is a multi-talented brand and a worldwide entertainer, who a lot of people think is new but has been around since 2009.
This DJ’s relationship with Davido can be dated as far back as 2010, as they’ve both been doing a lot of work back in Atlanta.
On January 4, 2018, he released the song that brought him to the limelight in Nigeria “Ada” featuring Davido.
As a DJ, he has performed at major venues like Lincoln Center in NYC, London, Lagos, and many more.
Yonda:
Yonda adds to DMW‘s rich list of talented artistes such as Dremo, Mayorkun, Peruzzi, and DJ Ecool.
Ever since the music act Yonda registered his presence on the Nigerian music scene with his hit song, Bad Girl Riri, featuring Mayorkun, his talent has been proven.
However, if you call him one of the underrated artistes of DMW, you are totally not wrong.
His steady growth in the industry can be noticed. His recent EP Wild Blue is evidence of the singer’s slow and steady growth.
