Nigerian music legend 2Baba has voiced strong confidence in the future of Afrobeats, brushing off concerns that the genre might lose its global appeal.

Speaking with media personality Yaw on Wazobia FM, the iconic singer—born Innocent Idibia—credited the genre’s ongoing resilience to the rising wave of young talent. According to him, the new generation of musicians is not only keeping Afrobeats alive but also pushing it to greater heights both in Nigeria and internationally.
“Afrobeats can never die. If you listen to some of the young artists now, you’ll see the genre is in very capable hands,” 2Baba said, highlighting their creativity, energy, and distinctive styles as key drivers of Afrobeats’ sustained success.
He singled out fast-rising singer Fola for her remake of his classic hit If Love Is A Crime, calling it “impressive and refreshing.”
“I really loved it—soft, smooth vocals. The present crop of artists has special flows. I love their styles,” he added, emphasizing his admiration for the fresh talent shaping the future of the genre.
