The Federal Government of Nigeria has appointed legendary music icon Innocent “2Baba” Idibia as the country’s new National Fire Safety Ambassador, entrusting him with the mission of driving nationwide awareness on fire prevention.

The announcement was made by the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Samuel Adeyemi, during the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Fire Safety Week held at the Service Headquarters on Friday.
Adeyemi explained that 2Baba was selected for his influence and credibility, noting that many Nigerians still treat fire outbreaks as “distant possibilities,” a mindset he says continues to lead to avoidable tragedies.
This year’s Fire Safety Week rolled out multiple activities designed to educate the public. It kicked off with a virtual town hall meeting, followed by the presentation of Group Life Insurance Scheme cheques to families of fallen and injured fire officers.
The event also featured the awarding of the CG’s Cup and medals to outstanding performers.
Throughout the week, fire personnel fanned out across the country, hosting sensitisation drives in schools, markets, commercial hubs, and local communities.
Citizens participated in roadshows, emergency drills, and practical demonstrations that taught hands-on fire-prevention and safety skills.
Adeyemi described public participation as “remarkable,” noting a renewed sense of responsibility among Nigerians toward preventing fire disasters.
The closing ceremony also honoured individuals and organisations that showed exceptional commitment to safety compliance and risk reduction. Addressing attendees, Adeyemi encouraged certificate recipients to take the fire-safety message back into their homes, workplaces, and social circles.
Speaking on 2Baba’s new assignment, he added:
“As a National Fire Safety Ambassador, we expect him to inspire a new generation to embrace a culture of safety.”
With 2Baba now championing the cause, the FFS hopes to usher in a stronger, more safety-conscious nation.
