The stage is officially set for the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League final, with English heavyweights Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur locking horns later this month. Both clubs advanced through their semi-final battles to book a spot in the showpiece clash.

This marks another all-English showdown in the competition’s history, the last being in 2019 when Chelsea comfortably saw off Arsenal in Baku. Spurs are no strangers to this stage either—they won the inaugural UEFA Cup in 1972, triumphed again in 1984, but suffered a defeat to Feyenoord in 1974.
As for Manchester United, this will be their third Europa League final in just eight years. They lifted the trophy in 2017 after beating Ajax, but fell short in a dramatic penalty shootout against Villarreal in 2021.
United’s route to the final saw them cruise past Athletic Club with a 3-0 first-leg lead from Bilbao. Although they briefly trailed in the second leg at Old Trafford, goals from Mason Mount, Casemiro, and Rasmus Højlund secured a dominant aggregate victory. United remain unbeaten in the competition.

Spurs also made light work of their semi-final opponents, Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt—who made history by reaching this stage. A goalless first half in front of 42,000 fans in Bodø was followed by goals from Dominic Solanke and Pedro Porro, ending the fairytale for the underdogs.
For Tottenham, this final represents more than just silverware—it’s a chance to end a 17-year trophy drought. United, meanwhile, are eyeing a return to elite European competition. With neither club enjoying strong domestic seasons, the Europa League trophy also offers a golden ticket into next season’s Champions League and the lucrative rewards that come with it.

This year’s final will take place at the modern San Mamés, home of Athletic Club. Opened in 2013 to replace the century-old original, the stadium holds just over 50,000 spectators.
It has hosted matches during Euro 2020 and last year’s UEFA Women’s Champions League final, but this will be its first time staging the Europa League final as a neutral venue.
While Bilbao’s own hopes of a hometown final ended at the hands of United, the city is ready to welcome fans from across Europe for what promises to be an electrifying night.
