Official: Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal wins 2024 Kopa Trophy at Ballon d’Or gala
Barcelona’s rising star Lamine Yamal has officially been awarded the 2024 Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d’Or Gala in Paris, recognizing him as the best Under-21 footballer of the year.
The 17-year-old sensation has had a remarkable year, breaking into Barcelona’s first team under Xavi Hernandez and playing a pivotal role in Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 victory.
This achievement adds to Barcelona’s recent success with the Kopa Trophy, bringing the award back to Catalonia after Jude Bellingham’s win last year. Yamal follows in the footsteps of Barcelona’s previous young talents, Pedri and Gavi, making it three Kopa Trophy wins for the club in the past four years.
Yamal’s standout year has also earned him a historic top-ten finish in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings, making him the youngest player ever to achieve this feat.
His victory came amid competition from notable talents like Pau Cubarsi, Arda Guler, Alejandro Garnacho, Warren Zaire-Emery, and others, further establishing his place as one of football’s brightest young stars.
