Yachine Trophy 2023: Best goalkeeper nominees revealed
The 2023 Yachine Trophy nominees, an award that acknowledges the best goalkeeper of the year within the framework of the annual Ballon d’Or ceremony, have been unveiled.
This prestigious accolade, named after the legendary former Soviet Union goalkeeper Lev Yashin, was introduced in 2019 as part of the expanded Ballon d’Or and has previously been claimed by notable keepers like Alisson, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Thibaut Courtois.
Courtois, who secured the Yachine Trophy in 2022 after a triumphant season with Real Madrid in the Champions League, is once again among the nominees.
He is joined by a distinguished group of goalkeepers who have demonstrated exceptional prowess at either the club or international level over the past 12 months. Among them is Yassine Bounou, a key figure in Morocco’s historic journey to the World Cup semi-finals and a Europa League victor with Sevilla.
They are joined by Ederson and Andre Onana, who alternated in goalkeeping in the 2023 Champions League final and now play on opposite sides of the Manchester football divide. Aaron Ramsdale is well-known for his performance with Arsenal, and Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa was a critical part of Argentina’s World Cup victory in December.
