Nigerian folk legend Beautiful Nubia has sparked controversy online after accusing gospel musicians Yinka Ayefele and rising act BBO of lifting the melody of his 1997 classic Seven Lifes without permission.

Taking to X on Thursday, Beautiful Nubia, whose real name is Segun Akinlolu, expressed frustration over what he described as repeated copyright violations by gospel artists.

He specifically called out Ayefele’s 2012 track, My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti), and BBO’s 2026 release, Amin, claiming both borrowed the core melody from his original composition.

“There was Yinka Ayefele with My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti) in 2012 and now someone called BBO with Amin this year. Both stole their melodies from our original song Seven Lifes,” he wrote. “When will Nigerians (especially the so-called gospel musicians) learn to respect copyright?”

The folk singer’s comments highlight ongoing debates about intellectual property in Nigeria’s music industry, particularly regarding gospel artists’ adherence to copyright laws.

As of now, neither Yinka Ayefele nor BBO has publicly responded to the allegations, leaving fans and industry watchers waiting for a reaction.

Nigerian Afropop sensation Adekunle Gold, popularly known as AG Baby, has shared the touching backstory behind his collaboration with gospel legend Yinka Ayefele on his song “Many People.”

In a recent social media exchange, the singer revealed that Ayefele’s distinctive vocals on the track weren’t lifted from an old recording but were specially recorded after he personally visited the veteran musician in Ibadan.

Responding to a curious fan who asked whether the gospel star’s voice was sampled or newly recorded, Adekunle Gold replied,

“I traveled to Ibadan to find him. I said, ‘Sir, I’d love you to record this song again for me and say Eja Nla no be small fish o.’ He said, ‘I’ll do it for you Dekunle.’”

That brief yet heartfelt revelation quickly went viral, drawing admiration from fans who praised Adekunle Gold’s humility and deep respect for the gospel icon.

A video shared alongside the post captured moments from the visit showing the “Party No Dey Stop” crooner touring several Ibadan-based radio stations, including Fresh 105.9 FM and Tiwa N’Tiwa Radio 106.5 FM, both owned by Ayefele.

The clip ends with the two artists exchanging warm smiles and posing together, confirming the beautiful union of Afropop and gospel spirit.

Appearing in his motorized wheelchair, Yinka Ayefele exuded his signature charm and grace. His contribution to “Many People,” a standout track from Adekunle Gold’s latest album, Fuji, serves as a bridge between generations, merging Ayefele’s gospel roots with AG Baby’s modern Afropop rhythm.

Adekunle Gold’s story has since added a new layer of emotion to “Many People,” reminding fans that behind the feel-good melody lies a journey of persistence, reverence, and creative connection between two of Nigeria’s most admired artists.

The world knows African music is having a global moment, but to genuinely grasp its explosive power, one must look closely at its roots.

This vital connection between deep-seated heritage and the sounds of tomorrow proved the defining story of the inaugural week at the Greasy Tunes Café, Spotify’s thrilling experiential pop-up in Lekki, Lagos.

Spotify Honors African Sounds at Greasy Tunes Café Launch

The week anchored itself entirely on this premise: the legacy and evolution of African Sound, demonstrating how the continent’s sound shapers are intentionally weaving history into the contemporary fabric of global music. What unfolded was a masterclass in cultural cohesion, uniting ancestral spiritualism with digital-age production to showcase the music’s foundation and spectacular future.

The experience kicked off with an electrifying launch party. Group Therapy set the stage with a vital, pulsing sound, with South African DJ, Thakzin, taking control, delivering a global pulse with his Amapiano fusion. This opening night proved the café to be more than a novelty; it is a living, breathing hub for the African sounds defining a generation.

The focus then shifted sharply towards the intellectual journey powering the music, with crucial fireside chats examining African music’s’ essential makeup.

The panel “The Evolving Sounds of African Music”, moderated by Spotify Senior Editor Benewah Boateng, offered sharp insights into the dynamics of sound evolution. Producers and artists, including Nigeria’s Andre Vibes and Braye, alongside Brazilian artist Melly, collectively stressed that the core of music lies in its lineage.
Driving deeper into the music’s foundation, a pivotal, ceremonial moment arrived with a performance from the Eyo masquerade, visually and historically linking the contemporary Lagos pulse to its ancestral rhythm. This immediately set the stage for the powerful “Cultural Symbolisms & African Music” chat. Here, Nigeria’s DJ and record producer Spinall and rapper Vector, moderated by media executive Jide Taiwo, reinforced the fundamental truth: the sound is inseparable from the culture that birthed it.

This essential cultural conversation championed the exhibition of heritage, from the masquerade to global stages, stressing that preserving culture requires continuously telling its stories accurately and intentionally.

“For African music, many stories have never been told, and a lot of information has been misconstrued. It is important that people know the origin and the culture behind these things. I think Spotify is doing something great in fostering that unlearning. It is quite impactful,” said Spinall.

This powerful dialogue led perfectly into the evening’s event: RADAR Presents: FOLA – Catharsis Live. The artist, whose work is rooted in the urban Lagos experience, delivered a raw, unvarnished set. FOLA’s performance, brimming with the soulful complexity of his latest album, framed the music not just as party material, but as a form of communal emotional release powered by indigenous storytelling.

Fola

The week’s ultimate conclusion arrived with the masterful fusion of heritage and modernity presented by Adekunle Gold. In the event’s defining moment, the Afropop icon discussed his celebrated project, Fuji, articulating the entire thesis: his work is not nostalgia, but a conscious effort to carry the original roots of Nigerian music into the future.

AG Baby

The definitive statement came during his subsequent live performance, which showcased a mesmerising blend of traditional Fuji drumming and sleek, global soundscapes. The moment reached another level when Adekunle Gold stirred widespread emotion by inviting legend Yinka Ayefele on stage.

Their performance of Ayefele’s evergreen hit, “Many People”, was truly electrifying, instantly evoking deep nostalgia among all fans present and viewing online. The sheer power of this masterful reinvention left the audience awestruck.

In a chilling and unforgettable interview, gospel music icon and media personality Yinka Ayefele was left in shock as he listened to the horrifying confessions of a former ritualist who claimed responsibility for over 78 murders.

The confessional, aired on Ayefele’s popular radio program Opeyemi on Fresh FM, has shaken listeners to their core with its gruesome details of ritual sacrifices and cannibalistic acts.

The anonymous man, hidden from the camera, recounted a dark past marked by unimaginable atrocities, confessing to slaughtering victims and consuming their bodies as part of his ritual practices. He detailed how he lured unsuspecting women to their demise, using charm and feigned affection to pull them into his web of terror.

The man claimed he would send accomplices to clubs and hotels, where they would befriend vulnerable women and lure them to his shrine, a place where many met their tragic end.

The former ritualist’s accounts included shocking descriptions of monthly rituals performed to appease the gods he served, revealing a chilling calmness as he described devouring hearts and other body parts in a grotesque communion.

Despite multiple arrests and prison sentences across the southwest, he maintained a near-continuous reign of terror, evading the law time and again.

This shocking story is a powerful reminder for everyone, especially women, to exercise caution and vigilance in a world where threats often lurk in unexpected places. It also underscores the importance of relying on instincts and staying alert to ensure personal safety.

The unnerving revelations from this former ritualist, who now claims to have found redemption, continue to send ripples through the audience as they ponder the horror that was concealed behind a seemingly ordinary face.

Gospel artist Yinka Ayefele has expressed gratitude for witnessing the first Sunday in 2024. In a heartwarming video shared on his Instagram page on Sunday, January 7, 2024, Ayefele joyfully jumped from his wheelchair.

Despite being chairbound for over two decades due to a past road accident, the singer was captured dancing with two others to his song “Consolation.”

In the video, Ayefele wore a beaming smile as he joyously jumped from his wheelchair multiple times, marking the occasion with a celebration of life and faith.

Accompanying the post, he wrote, “I AM GRATEFUL TO YOU LORD…”

What are the wildest lyrics from Nigerian songs that had your mouth wide open from shock?

Nigerian songs are a combination of many things and while many say that melody is the most important factor in making them a hit, lyrics also play a major role.

Thanks to Nigerian songs, the culture has been blessed with a lot of slang, motivational quotes and many others.

However, there are some that have us shaking our heads and doing the cross sign.

Here are the wildest lyrics we have heard from a Nigerian song.

“lyrically I dope die, eyan Whitney Houston”- Lil Kesh (Lyrical)

Lyrically

This song is a combination of ‘wow’ and ‘shocking’ moments. Lil Kesh who released this song in 2014 during his early years in the Industry dropped “Lyrically” as evidence of his ambition to prove he was a worthy rapper to earn a spotlight in the Nigerian music Industry.

While ‘Lyrically’ is great in general, the lyrics however make one go from wow to ‘oh my God’. There were so many shocking lyrics from the track to pick from but this one had cleaning our ears to check if we heard right.

This song is actually named after a Nigerian Footballer, Samuel Okwaraji who collapsed and died of congestive heart failure in the 77th minute of a World Cup qualification match against Angola at the Lagos National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos State on 12 August 1989.

So you can see why this particular lyric left us in shock.

“Pepper Dem Gang” is a street hop song released in 2016 by Olamide featuring former label signee, Davolee. The song was a hit that not only dominated playlists but its title became a street slang that vene inspired street wears and funny pictures to follow.

However, some of the lyrics in the song have us asking questions. In verse two, Olamide sings, ‘Baby Aaliyah cause you fly die.‘ If you don’t know who Aaliyah is, you might not understand why this particular lyric is wild.

Aaliyah was an American singer and actress who died at the age of 22 in an aeroplane accident in the Bahamas, when the overloaded aircraft she was travelling in crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all nine on board.

So Olamide is making a reference to the death of Aaliyah by a plane crash and using it as a form of compliment for his love interest is just so, ‘wow’.

Am still fucking nice worth d flow, Tony Payne on her period- Phenom (The Game)

In 2013, Olamide linked up with criminally underrated rapper, Phenom for a hardcore rap titled “The Game“. While the rap song is a beautiful rendition by two talented rappers, Phenom makes a very wild statement in his verse that could be interpreted as a shade.

In his verse, Phenom raps, “Am still fucking nice worth d flow, Tony Payne on her period”. You might be wondering what’s the big deal with the lyric.

If you recall, in 2011, the Nigerian suci Industry was awash with news of marital troubles between Nigerian artist, 9ice and his ex-wife, Toni Payne. Apparently, 9ice claims Toni Payne cheated on him with several other celebrities including Ruggedman.

You are not Ayefele, so what’s your excuse?- Zlatan (Killin Dem)

In 2019, Burna Boy and Zlatan had us dancing to zanku with their hit collab, “Killin Dem“. The song will go on to make the tracklist of Burna Boy’s first Grammy Nominated album, “African Giant“.

Probably it was the thrill of the song that made everyone ignore Zlatan’s first lyric in his verse. I mean why would he start a verse with ‘You are not Ayefele, so what’s your excuse’?

Yinka Ayefele is by every right a successful musician and businessman in his own right and the lyric is just so disrespectful of him.

Nigerian music producer, gospel singer, and Chairman of Fresh media group, Yinka Ayefele, has stepped forward to refute rumours that he has passed away by declaring that “I Am Alive And Well.”

In response to a supposed Tik Tok video that went viral on Tuesday and claimed that he was dead, Ayefele reacted.

It was gathered that the widely watched video, which was said to have been made by one David had his pictures and that of his triplet with a dirge from gospel singer Tope Alabi as the soundtrack.

Ayefele responded to the rumour by stating that he had several calls from friends and loved ones yesterday asking how he was doing.

The artist verified his existence and good health in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday night. He also questioned why someone would make a video to propagate false information about his death.

Yinka Ayefele, a seasoned gospel musician, recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of his survival in a car accident.

Recall that Yinka Ayefele was forced to use a wheelchair as a result of a terrible car accident that occurred on December 12, 1997.

Today, December 12, 2022, is the 25th anniversary of his survival in the tragic incident.

Ayefele showed old images of the severely damaged Volkswagen Beetle that was involved in the collision that forced him into a wheelchair and described it as his “turning point.”

The husband and father of three conveyed his thankfulness to God and encouraged his supporters to do the same.

Sharing the pictures, the singer wrote in the caption:

“It’s exactly 25 years ago today.. Just keep thanking God on my behalf…It Was on the 12th of December 1997. My Turing point.. I shall forever be grateful to the owner of my destiny.”

While Most Nigerian Artists have had to struggle with many challenges, some others have to surpass the obstacle of their disability to make it in the Industry.

There’s an old saying that goes “disability is never inability.” There have been numerous examples of persons born with disabilities rising to the top and succeeding in life.

Some people wind up begging on the streets because of their disabilities. Others give up on themselves because they are unable to integrate into society.

However, these three Nigerian Artists have demonstrated that regardless of your disability, if you are destined for greatness, you will achieve it.

Anthony Olanrewaju Awotoye, better known as Tony Tetuila, was born into a poor polygamous household with a big hump on his chest, no doubt due to a terrible health condition, and was paralysed as a youngster. He is proof that a man’s beginning does not necessarily dictate his future.

This recording artist and songwriter from Oro, Kwara State, is widely considered as one of Nigeria’s living Hip-Hop icons, and owes his success and life to God and his mother’s love, bravery, sacrifice, and prayers, in his own words. He walks, but his legs were not in perfect balance.
