Heralding her seventh studio album, the track signals a bold, experimental Rebel Queen era, while staying rooted in the signature sound that has made her a global Afropop icon.

“My Bébé” is a high-octane, dance-ready track that fuses Highlife and modern pop, producing a sound that feels both nostalgic and futuristic. Yemi’s vocals shine with her trademark charisma, humor, and heart, effortlessly turning the song into an instant earworm destined for radio rotations, TikTok trends, and club playlists.

What sets this release apart is its unapologetically African polish. Yemi continues to weave cultural elements and social storytelling into her music, creating a track that is universally accessible yet deeply rooted in African identity.

The catchy hooks, radiant production, and vibrant energy reaffirm her status as one of the continent’s most skilled musical storytellers.

With her world tour on the horizon, “My Bébé” is the perfect preview of what fans can expect: joyful, bold, and celebratory Afropop that commands the dance floor.

This single marks another milestone in Yemi Alade’s career, reinforcing why she remains the Queen of Afropop.

Nigeria’s music dominance once again took centre stage on Sunday night as the 9th edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) lit up the Eko Convention Centre, Lagos.

Hosted by rapper and actor Falz, the ceremony brought together Africa’s biggest stars for a night that celebrated sound, culture and continental excellence.

Stealing the spotlight was Rema, whose name echoed repeatedly through the hall after he emerged as one of the biggest winners of the evening.

The Afrobeats superstar clinched three major awards, underlining his growing influence across Africa and beyond. Rema was crowned Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artist in Western Africa, and Best African Artistin R&B and Soul, a clean sweep that set the tone for the night.

While Rema dominated individual honours, Burna Boy walked away with one of the ceremony’s most coveted prizes. The Grammy-winning star won Album of the Year for No Sign of Weakness, further cementing his status as one of Africa’s most consistent global exports.

Burna Boy also shared another moment of triumph through collaboration, picking up Best African Collaboration alongside Shallipopi.

Shallipopi had a memorable night of his own, adding Song of the Year to his growing list of accolades with his viral hit Laho. His wins reflected the increasing influence of street-pop sounds on the African music landscape.

Veteran rapper Phyno continued to represent African hip-hop proudly after winning Best African Artiste in African Hip-Hop. At the same time, Yemi Alade showcased her versatility by securing Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series, or Documentary for her song You Are, featured in the animated series Iyanu.

The future of African music was also well represented. Rising star Qing Madi was named Most Promising Artist of the Year, edging out a competitive list of nominees including Cysoul, Joshua Baraka, King Luca, L’Oiseau Rare, Lwah Ndlunkulu, Massamba Amadeus, Rym, Kunmie, and Fola. Meanwhile, fast-rising singer Chella earned the crowd’s love after emerging African Fans’ Favourite.

Other Nigerian acts who recorded wins on the night include Yemi Alade, Qing Madi, Phyno and Chella, reinforcing Nigeria’s strong presence at the pan-African awards ceremony.

With electrifying performances, emotional acceptance speeches and a celebration of Africa’s diverse sounds, AFRIMA 2025 once again lived up to its reputation.

The Lagos-hosted ceremony not only honoured chart-toppers and rising stars but also told a bigger story — one of Africa’s music industry continuing to grow louder, bolder and more influential on the global stage.

The 36-year-old ‘Johnny’ hitmaker shared her thoughts during a music panel at Entertainment Week Africa on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, held at Eko Hotel in Lagos.

According to reports, the panel brought together some of Nigeria’s most impactful female artists, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Sasha P, Qing Madi, Teni, and Waje, who sat down to unpack their journeys, challenges, and triumphs as women thriving in an industry that often tests their strength.

The session, themed “The Price of Being Her… Power and the Cost of Visibility in Music,” was moderated by Tiwa Savage, who guided heartfelt conversations around authenticity, self-worth, and the constant balancing act of being seen and staying true.

Yemi Alade used the moment to reflect on her career, speaking from a place of experience and resilience.

“It’s very important to be authentic. It dawned on me that it was important for me to create my own doors. Where the doors were closed in my face, I broke down the walls. Where the walls were too strong, I created a window for myself. But just keep going and going and going.”

She encouraged women in the industry to embrace the strength they already possess, adding: “You all need to know that we can stand in our power.”

Then, turning to Tiwa Savage with admiration, Alade acknowledged the trail Savage continues to blaze for female artists across Africa.

“I honestly want you to know that those moments when you rugged it and do what you truly want to do, you are standing up for many females.”

Her words drew nods and applause, a fitting tribute to a night dedicated to celebrating the courage, creativity, and unstoppable determination of women in music.

In a candid moment on Martell’s Swift Conversations, Yemi Alade opened up about the women who quietly but powerfully shaped the foundation of her artistry.

For the Afropop superstar, three names stood out: Beyoncé, Omawumi, and Waje. Each of them, she said, poured something different into the artist she eventually became.

Yemi Alade Speaks About the Women Who Inspired Her Rise

Beyoncé represented the possibility of greatness without borders. Yemi recalled how watching Queen Bey’s precision, discipline, and electrifying stagecraft taught her that an African woman could hold any stage in the world, not just confidently, but dominantly. Beyoncé became a reminder that excellence is a decision, not an accident.

Omawumi, on the other hand, embodied pure Nigerian strength. Her boldness, vocal power, and fearless authenticity resonated deeply with Yemi Alade.

She admired how Omawumi carried herself with full-chested confidence, unfiltered emotion, and zero apologies, qualities Yemi would later weave into her own larger-than-life performances.

Then there was Waje, the voice that could melt even the toughest hearts. Yemi spoke of how Waje’s emotional depth and vocal richness taught her the beauty of vulnerability in music.

Through Waje, she learned that powerful music isn’t only about loudness or range but about truth, soul, and the courage to feel.

For Yemi Alade, these women were more than inspirations; they were templates. Blueprints. Proof that female artists could stand tall in a male-dominated industry and still shine on their own terms.

Their influence helped shape her confidence, widen her ambition, and fuel her belief that she could build a global footprint of her own, and she has.

When Yemi Alade sat down with media personality Chude Jideonwo, she peeled back a lesser-known layer of her past, one that had nothing to do with fame, music charts, or global tours.

The Afropop star opened up about a brief but intense period in her university days when she developed a short-term addiction to smoking cigarettes, a habit she later dropped after realising how much it was harming her voice and forcing her into secrecy.

Yemi Alade Shares Her Hidden Struggle and How She Overcame It

It started innocently, she recalled a bit of curiosity and experimentation that gradually turned into a routine. “When I was in the university I tried smoking. It did not work out,” she said with a wry smile. “But before it did not work out, it worked out a bit too much. I started needing to smoke before I go to bed. I was getting addicted to that lifestyle.”

What made it worse for the “Johnny” crooner was the double life it created. She found herself hiding cigarettes whenever she stepped out in public, uncomfortable with the image it projected and the secrecy it demanded.

“I was like, ‘What’s this life? The discomfort that I can’t go to bed without smoking and then when I go out, I am going to hide the cigarette?’” she reflected.

It was during that phase of self-awareness that she made a promise to herself one that would later shape her discipline as an artist and a person.

“As a teenager in the university trying to figure out life, I also made certain decisions for myself that if I’m going to hide to do something, I will not do it. Because I like to be aware of my environment and my decisions,” she said.

Eventually, her love for music and her commitment to her craft gave her the final push to quit. She noticed her voice, her greatest asset, was beginning to suffer from the habit. “They are not for me. And they harmed me, they affected my voice anyways. So I stopped,” she admitted. “Smoking for me did not last up to a year.”

Today, Yemi Alade stands as one of Africa’s most celebrated performers, confident, vocal, and fully aware of the choices that make her who she is.

Her story is a reminder that even stars once struggled with the same battles of self-control and self-discovery faced by many young people finding their way.

Afro-pop powerhouse Yemi Alade has peeled back the layers of her public persona to reveal a deeply emotional chapter in her life, one marked by confusion, self-discovery, and silent struggle.

In a heartfelt conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the Johnny crooner opened up about a period of her life when she unknowingly battled depression after discovering that she had been living with the wrong perception of her age for years.

According to Yemi, the realization struck like a lightning bolt.

“There was a time someone asked me my age, and for three years I kept saying I was 22,” she recalled. “Then I realised I was actually 25. I took out my phone, did the maths, and when I found out the truth, I was depressed for a few days. My mind couldn’t take the reality. It was mental. For three years, I didn’t know my real age.”

The singer described how something as seemingly trivial as her real age spiraled into a deep emotional struggle one that left her questioning her sense of self and identity.

“It was mental,” she said softly. “I didn’t even know who I was at that time.”

Behind the bright stage lights and her ever-cheerful public image, Yemi Alade revealed she was fighting an internal battle, juggling her rising fame with moments of intense self-doubt and confusion.

Her story offers a rare glimpse into the emotional pressures of celebrity life, where the need to stay strong and joyful often conceals private battles. Yemi’s honesty reminds fans that even those who inspire millions are not immune to moments of fragility and mental exhaustion.

Through this revelation, the award-winning artist has not only shared her pain but also reaffirmed her humanity, a powerful reminder that growth often begins with vulnerability.

“I kept saying I was 22 for three years, and when I realized I was 25, I was depressed for a few days,” Yemi Alade shares with me on what it felt like to suddenly realize how much time had passed.

Released under Effyzzie Music Group, the 3-minute track blends Alade’s commanding vocals with FAVE’s velvet-smooth delivery, resulting in a poignant ode to devotion in the face of uncertainty.

On ‘Worry,’ the two singers weave a narrative of patience and unwavering faith in a relationship tested by distance and doubt.

With Afro-soul grooves layered over subtle percussion, the song paints vivid images of sleepless nights, whispered reassurances, and the unbreakable pull of love. Alade’s verses radiate seasoned strength, while FAVE injects youthful tenderness, their harmonies embodying the delicate balance between resilience and vulnerability.

The single follows Yemi Alade’s 2025 releases ‘Mbali‘ and ‘My Padi,’ further enriching her celebrated catalog.

For FAVE, it marks another milestone in her fast-rising career, showcasing a maturity that solidifies her place among Afrobeats’ most promising voices.
