Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of centre-back Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg – the agreement is still subject to work permit approval.

Earlier this month, according to sources, Spurs and Wolfsburg reached a £43 million agreement for Van de Ven. He now has a six-year deal with Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that runs through 2029.

The number 37 jersey, which was most recently worn by Kyle Walker-Peters and was formerly owned by Harry Kane in his early days with the first team, has already been given to Van de Ven.

The 22-year-old Dutchman has led his nation at the Under-21 level but has yet to make his senior international debut. He was included to the Netherlands’ preliminary World Cup roster for 2022.

Van de Ven joins Giuglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, Manor Solomon, and Ashley Phillips as Tottenham’s fifth newcomer this summer. The £43 million price tag surpasses the £40 million that Spurs and Leicester agreed upon to acquire Maddison back in June.

Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski have both signed permanent deals after loan stints.

Van de Ven was born in the town of Wormer, near Amsterdam. He was drafted into the youth ranks of local North Holland club FC Volendam from the age of 12, progressing to the second division club’s first team by the age of 18 and moving to Wolfsburg two years later.

Van de Ven, who played frequently for Volendam, struggled to make an impact in his first season in Germany due to injuries. But in the next season, 2022–203, he made a name for himself and started all but one of Wolfsburg’s 34 Bundesliga games.
