According to reports, Besiktas has approved Wout Weghorst to fly to England in order to complete a transfer to Manchester United.

The Netherlands target man was recently identified by the Red Devils as a temporary fix to their striker problems, and Burnley was contacted about taking over his loan agreement from Besiktas.

And Weghorst’s new loan could be confirmed soon as we understand he is set to undergo a medical with United.

While the deal is now progressing smoothly, United were initially not happy that they would have to wait for Besiktas to sort out a replacement for Weghorst, though were understanding of their position.

But the Turkish giants have now agreed to let Weghorst leave before a replacement has signed on the dotted line. Al Nassr’s Vincent Aboubakar has been heavily linked with a return to Besiktas in recent days.

United is now finalizing the agreement and hopes to announce Weghorst’s arrival over the weekend. An option to buy will not be a part of the deal.

Weghorst will transfer to an English team in January for the second year in a row after initially joining Burnley from Wolfsburg at the beginning of 2022.

While the Clarets were relegated from the Premier League as a result of his two goals in 20 games, he was notable for his performance versus United in a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor early in his time in England.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s first game since his move to Saudi Arabia could see him face his nemesis, Lionel Messi.

Following his contentious split from Manchester United at the beginning of January, Ronaldo officially joined Al-Nassr, but he has not yet played a game for his new team.

According to The Guardian, Portugal’s star Ronaldo may play for a team made up of a mix of Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal players when they take on PSG in a friendly on January 19 in Riyadh.

The 37-year-old received a two-game FA suspension after smashing an Everton fan’s phone last year.

As a consequence, Ronaldo missed Al-Nassr’s 2-0 win against Al Tai and also won’t be able to feature against Al-Shabab.

It is anticipated that Ronaldo’s first competitive appearance for Al-Nassr will come against Ettifaq on January 22.

That could potentially see Ronaldo face Messi, although it remains to be seen whether the latter will be involved in the fixture.

Al-Nassr manager Rudi Garcia expressed his disappointment with the scheduling of the friendly against PSG.

As reported by L’Equipe, Garcia said: ‘It [Ronaldo’s debut] won’t be with the Al Nassr jersey. As the coach of Al-Nassr, I cannot be happy with this match. For development, to see PSG, to see the great Parisian players, indeed it is a good thing. But we have a championship game three days later.

‘In terms of scheduling, it could have been better thought out. But it’s not a big deal… We are in the lead, we are happy. It is a difficult championship to win, but we intend to do it.’

As a result of Vincent Aboubakar’s contract being terminated, Al-Nassr may now officially register Ronaldo.

Clubs are only permitted to sign up a maximum of eight foreign players per squad, according to Saudi league regulations.

As he waits to make his debut for Al-Nassr, Ronaldo, who will make £175 million annually, has been training hard in the gym.

Ronaldo has been regularly compared to Messi throughout his career, particularly while they were teammates at Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively.

Cristiano Ronaldo is not currently registered to play at Al Nassr, and he won’t be unless a current foreign player is sold or mutually agreed to be freed from their contract.

Prior to the commencement of the 2022–23 season, the Saudi Pro League allowed a maximum of seven foreign players for each club.

Ronaldo, who is already serving a suspension from his stint at Manchester United for knocking a phone from an Everton fan last season, is currently the tenth foreign player on the Al Nassr side, which is unfortunate for him.

It means that in order to be registered to play, the club must free up some space.

“Al Nassr has not registered him yet because there is no vacancy for a foreign player. A foreign player must leave to register Ronaldo, either by selling or by terminating the contract by mutual consent,” an anonymous club source told AFP on Thursday.

A second club source also said: “There are ongoing negotiations to sell one of the players, but they have not reached their final stages yet.”

Cameroonian striker Vincent Aboubakar and Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina are the next most high-profile players in the current Al Nassr squad.

The club also has ex-Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo and former River Plate talent Pity Martinez occupying places in the quota.

While Spanish defender Alvaro signed in 2022, Brazilian forward Anderson Talisca joined in 2021 and has scored 31 goals in 43 games. Jaloliddin Masharipov, an international for Uzbekistan, is said to be the player most likely to depart in order to force Al Nassr back inside the quota.

This week, during his introduction as an Al Nassr player, Ronaldo committed a grave error by confusing Saudi Arabia with South Africa.
