Global pop star Tyla has teamed up with Swedish hitmaker Zara Larsson for a new high-energy single titled SHE DID IT AGAIN, a collaboration already generating global attention for its bold fusion of styles.

Tyla and Zara Larsson team up for ‘SHE DID IT AGAIN’

The record continues Tyla’s evolution following the breakout success of her debut era and her Grammy win, further refining the “pop-amapiano” direction that has made her one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music.

Sonically, SHE DID IT AGAIN sits at a striking intersection. It layers log-drum-driven Amapiano basslines with bright, polished Euro-pop synths, creating a sound that feels both rooted in South African rhythm and engineered for international radio.

Tyla delivers her signature airy, effortless vocal style, floating over the production with a calm, melodic presence. Zara Larsson complements that with powerful, full-range vocals, especially on the chorus, which is built as a soaring, festival-ready hook.

The song’s theme revolves around confidence, resilience, and success under pressure—capturing the “it girl” energy both artists are known for. It’s playful, assertive, and intentionally crafted to feel empowering without losing its fun edge.

Beyond the sound, the collaboration also reflects a wider cultural moment: the continued merging of African rhythmic structures with global pop frameworks. Tyla, in particular, continues to position herself as a bridge between continents, taking elements of South African sound and placing them at the center of mainstream pop.

Already being described as one of the standout pop collaborations of the year, SHE DID IT AGAIN reinforces both artists’ strengths while pushing amapiano-influenced pop further into global spaces—without diluting its identity.

Leading this year’s nominations are some of the biggest names shaping the sound worldwide, including Burna Boy, Rema, and Wizkid—artists who have consistently pushed African music onto the global stage.

They are joined by Ghanaian-American rising star MOLIY and South African breakout act Tyla, making the category a dynamic mix of established heavyweights and new-generation voices redefining the genre’s reach.

The inclusion of these artists reflects just how expansive Afrobeats—and its related sounds—has become, stretching across continents while continuing to evolve.

Looking back, Tyla made history at the 2025 edition of the awards by winning Favorite Afrobeats Artist, beating out strong contenders like Wizkid, Rema, Tems, and Asake. Her victory marked a significant moment for the South African star, cementing her place in the global conversation.

Wizkid, on the other hand, still holds a special place in the category’s history as its first-ever winner, having claimed the inaugural Favorite Afrobeats Artist award in 2022.

With this year’s nominees, the conversation isn’t just about who wins—it’s about how far the genre has come, and the diverse set of artists now carrying Afrobeats into its next global chapter.

The 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) is set to celebrate Africa’s biggest hits, with Nigerian artists making a strong showing in the “African Song of the Year” category.

The nominations highlight the continued influence of Nigerian music across the continent. Last year, the award went to “Tshwala Bam” by people, “Titom,” “Nigerian singer,” and Burna Boy, which became a fan-favourite anthem.

For 2026, Davido leads the Nigerian entries with two notable nominations. His 2025 hit “With You,” featuring Omah Lay from the album 5ive, has garnered global acclaim, including a 2026 Grammy nomination. Davido also appears on “Nakupenda,” an energetic Amapiano track by South African duo TXC, featuring Shoday, Scotts Maphuma, Zlatan, and AL Xapo, blending Nigerian and South African sounds to create a standout contender.

Other Nigerian songs nominated in the category include Rema’s “Kelebu,” Fido’s “Joy Is Coming,” and “Laho II” by Shallipopi and Burna Boy. South African star Tyla is also nominated for her 2025 hit “Chanel.”

With a diverse lineup of songs spanning Afrobeats, Amapiano, and contemporary African pop, the competition promises to be fierce, showcasing the vibrancy and innovation of African music.

The list, compiled by Spotify’s editorial team of cross-disciplinary editors and curators, spans music from 2015 to today, ranking songs not purely by streams but by cultural impact, musicality, storytelling, and lasting influence. Three African hits cracked the top 100, proving the continent’s pop dominance.

Number 8: “One Dance” – Drake, Wizkid & Kyla

Securing a spot in the top ten is no small feat, and the 2016 Afrobeats-infused collaboration “One Dance” earned its place. Drake, who had already experimented with Afrobeats via an unofficial remix of Wizkid’s “Ojuelegba,” broke fully into global pop with this track.

Blending Afrobeats and dancehall rhythms, “One Dance” not only gave Drake his first Billboard Hot 100 number one as a lead artist but also became the first song in Spotify history to reach one billion streams. Beyond the numbers, it proved that Afrobeats could anchor mainstream pop without losing its authenticity, opening doors for countless artists afterward.

Wizkid & Kyla" width="814" height="458" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ki0Ocze98U8?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen>

Number 29: “Calm Down” – Rema

Rema’s “Calm Down” had already been making waves before Selena Gomez jumped on the remix, but the collaboration elevated the track into a global phenomenon. The remix fused Rema’s playful energy with Gomez’s polished confidence, producing a song that transcended borders. “Calm Down” became the most successful Afrobeats single in Billboard history and the first African artist-led track to hit one billion streams on Spotify.

The track redefined what a global remix could achieve, amplifying rather than diluting the original sound.

Number 50: “Water” – Tyla

Tyla’s “Water” represents another landmark moment, introducing the South African genre Amapiano to a worldwide audience. Known for its log drum and hypnotic grooves, the track retained the genre’s distinctiveness while making waves globally.

The song won the inaugural Grammy for Best African Music Performance and made Tyla the first South African solo artist to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 in 55 years. Its placement at number 50 signals that Amapiano has officially arrived on the international pop stage.

Spotify’s staff picks highlight that African artists are no longer novelties on global pop lists. Afrobeats and Amapiano now sit comfortably alongside the likes of Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, and The Weeknd, demonstrating that Africa’s sounds are reshaping the very landscape of contemporary pop music.

The 24-year-old Johannesburg-born star named just one Nigerian artist on her list, with the remaining four spots taken by international music icons.

The clip resurfaced shortly after Tyla edged out the likes of Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and others to win her second Grammy Award at the 2026 Grammy Awards. She took home the prize for Best African Music Performance at the 68th edition of the ceremony, held on February 1, 2026, in the United States.

Tyla already holds a special place in Grammy history, having become the first-ever winner of the Best African Music Performance category in 2024 with her global smash hit, Water.

When asked to name her all-time favorites, the Grammy-winning singer began with the late Michael Jackson, widely celebrated as the “King of Pop,” whom she described as one of her biggest inspirations.

She also listed global superstar Rihanna, followed by pop icon Britney Spears, famously known as the “Princess of Pop.”

Her fourth choice was Canadian rapper Drake, one of the most-streamed artists in the world and a dominant force in global music.

Choosing the fifth spot, however, proved difficult for Tyla. After a brief pause, she settled on Nigerian superstar Wizkid.

Explaining her decision, Tyla applauded Wizkid’s longevity and cultural impact, noting that his contributions have been instrumental in taking Afrobeats from Africa to the global stage.

On February 2, 2026, the DMW boss finally broke his silence after missing out on the Best African Music Performance award, marking his third Grammy nomination without a win.

The category was claimed by Tyla, whose hit song “Push 2 Start” off her album Tyla edged out other strong contenders, including Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s “Gimme Dat,” Burna Boy’s “Love,” Davido and Omah Lay’s “With You,” and Eddy Kenzo & Mehran Matin’s “Hope & Love.”

Davido attended the star-studded ceremony alongside his wife, Chioma Adeleke; his siblings, Sharon Adeleke and Adewale Adeleke; his manager, Asa Asika; his cousin, Tunji Adeleke, and other close associates, holding on to hope for a historic win.

However, after the ceremony, the singer shared a heartfelt moment with fans on Instagram, posting elegant photos with his family and revealing that he almost skipped the event altogether.

“I said baby listen we lost again let’s not go,” Davido wrote, referring to a private conversation with his wife. According to him, Chioma encouraged him to rise above disappointment, telling him, “Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.” He ended the caption simply: “We outside.”

Moments after securing her second Grammy, this time for Best African Music Performance with her hit single “Push 2 Start,” the South African star dropped a major announcement backstage that instantly sent excitement through her fanbase.

With a smile and plenty of confidence, Tyla revealed the title of her upcoming sophomore album.

“I just want to announce something,” she told reporters. “My second album is coming out this summer, and it’s called A-POP.”

While she kept most details under wraps, Tyla assured fans that new music isn’t far away. The 24-year-old, widely praised for her seamless blend of pop, R&B, and amapiano, a sound many have dubbed “popiano,” hinted that this project reflects growth rather than reinvention.

“It’s going to feel different,” she explained. “It’s not a new me, just more of who I am now. I was 21, 22 before. Now at 24, I really feel like a woman with more to say and new energy to bring. I’m so excited.”

Eagle-eyed fans later uncovered that the album title wasn’t entirely new. A subtle Easter egg had already been planted in the visuals for her chart-topping Afrobeats hit “Chanel,” where “A-POP” briefly flashes on screen around the 52-second mark.

Keeping the momentum going, Tyla took to social media on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, to celebrate her Grammy win by sharing a new video featuring a short snippet of an unreleased track from the forthcoming album, offering fans their first sonic taste of the era ahead.

With anticipation already sky-high, Tyla summed it up best herself: “It’s going to be crazy.”

However, Cubana Chief Priest did not hold back in the comments section, deriding Tyla with a sharp critique. Labelling her an “Industry Plantain 🍌,” he implied that her success was not entirely due to talent but rather the result of backing from influential figures within the Grammy setup.

The term “Industry Plantain” is a play on “Industry Plant,” suggesting that Tyla’s rise, despite now being a two-time Grammy winner, may have been aided by hidden industry support rather than purely organic recognition.

Cubana Chief Priest’s comments have since sparked online debates, with fans divided between defending Tyla’s accomplishments and echoing the nightlife impresario’s criticism.

With the latest win, the 24-year-old becomes the first artist to secure the category twice, a milestone that signals her rising influence beyond the African continent.

68th Grammy Awards: Tyla makes history with back-to-back African music wins

Her victory stood out in a highly competitive field that featured some of Africa’s biggest names, including Burna Boy with Love, Davido featuring Omah Lay on With You, Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s Hope & Love, and Ayra Starr alongside Wizkid on Gimme Dat. Despite the stiff competition, Tyla emerged as the clear favourite on the night.

The Best African Music Performance category was introduced by the Recording Academy in 2024 as part of efforts to properly recognise African sounds and their growing global impact.

Tyla won the inaugural award with her viral breakout hit “Water,” while Nigeria’s Tems followed in 2025 with “Love Me Jeje.” With Tyla’s latest triumph, the category has now been dominated by female artists for three consecutive years.

Beyond the trophy, the trend highlights the powerful role African women continue to play in shaping contemporary global music. From streaming platforms to major award stages, their voices are increasingly setting the pace.

The creation of the category itself marked a major shift in African representation at the Grammys. For many years, African artists were largely grouped under the broad “world music” label. The new category allows African music to stand on its own, reflecting its commercial success, cultural depth, and worldwide appeal.

Born Tyla Laura Seethal, the singer shot to international prominence in 2023 when “Water” became a global sensation, dominating social media, especially TikTok, and introducing her sound to a worldwide audience.

The success of the track opened doors on the global stage and positioned her as one of Africa’s most exciting pop exports.

Signed to Epic Records, Tyla has continued her upward run with a series of well-received releases, including “Rush,” “Push 2 Start,” and “Channel.” Her growing collection of awards and nominations points to a career that is gathering speed rather than slowing down.

With two Grammy wins already secured, Tyla is not just pushing African pop to new heights globally; she is also setting a fresh standard for the next generation of artists from the continent.

South African pop sensation Tyla has emerged as the winner of the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammy Awards, edging out a strong field that included some of Nigeria’s biggest music exports.

The fast-rising star took home the prestigious honour with her hit single Push 2 Start, outpacing Burna Boy’s Love, Davido’s With You featuring Omah Lay, Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s Gimme Dat, and Hope & Love by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.

Introduced to celebrate and amplify African sounds on the global stage, the category once again underlined Nigeria’s dominance in the continent’s music space. Three Nigerian artists, Burna Boy, Davido, and Ayra Starr, earned nominations, reinforcing the country’s consistent presence at the world’s biggest music awards.

Although the trophy went south this year, the strong Nigerian showing highlighted the continued influence and reach of Afrobeats and African pop music worldwide, with African artists steadily claiming their space on the global music scene.
