At the Giant of Africa Festival in Rwanda, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Tyla, and Bruce Melodie excite fans with outstanding performances.

The first Giants of Africa Festival was a week-long event held in Kigali, Rwanda, to commemorate the non-profit’s 20th anniversary. It brought together young people from 16 different nations and used basketball as a means of empowerment and education.

On Saturday, August 19, a packed house attended the final concert, which was sponsored by Spotify. Davido, Tiwa Savage, Tyla, and Bruce Melodie delighted the pan-African audience with spectacular performances in front of a packed crowd.

Tyla, a Spotify Africa RADAR artist, took the stage first and sang her Amapiano, which incorporates elements of pop, R&B, and Afrobeats.

She began her performance with her Kooldrink duet, “Getting Late,” which, according to Spotify data, is also her most streamed song.

The next performer was Bruce Melodie from Rwanda, who opened with his song “Sawa Sawa,” which is his second-most streamed tune on Spotify. This song was a collaboration with Khaligraph Jones.

Bruce took the audience on a twenty-minute musical journey that included songs like “Ikinyafu,” “Saa Moya 7:00,” and “Funga Macho.”

The most anticipated performance of the day came next with Davido, who began with “Over Dem” off his recently released, highly praised fourth album, “Timeless.”

Davido then used hit after hit to take the crowd back in time, including “Dami Duro,” “FIA,” “Jowo,” “If,” “Fall,” and “Risky,” among others.

The showmanship continued, performing ‘High’, ‘Ke Star’, and ‘Champion Sound’. Finally, the moment for his most viral song arrived; ‘Unavailable‘, Davido’s most streamed song on ‘Timeless‘, and the most exported track among 18 -24-year-olds, soundtracking many dance videos.

The Giants of Africa stage’s last performance featured Tiwa Savage, the Queen of Afrobeats. Her set began with “49-99,” one of her most-streamed songs on Spotify. Next came “Ma Lo,” which was her second-most streamed song, then came a run of additional successes like “KEYS TO THE KINGDOM,” “Like,” “Pick Up,” and an acapella rendition of “Somebody’s Son.”

The crowd loved “Who Is Your Guy,” her most streamed song on Spotify, as well as “Koroba.” Tiwa’s performance, which concluded with “Stamina,” demonstrated why she is still regarded as the undisputed queen of Afrobeats.

Spotify, a global online streaming platform, has named Davido’s Unavailable as the most streamed song from his recently released album, Timeless.

This was announced in a statement released on Tuesday in Lagos by Spotify’s managing director for Sub-Saharan Africa, Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy.

According to Muhutu-Remy, the single Unavailable continues to be the most exported by listeners aged 18 to 24.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Davido’s fourth album, the 17-track Timeless, was released on March 31 and has since broken multiple streaming records.

She claimed that Spotify made the decision to make the data public in honour of performers like Davido, Tiwa Savage, Tyla, and Bruce Melodie who gave outstanding performances at the inaugural Giants of Africa Festival on August 19 in Kigali, Rwanda.

According to her, Spotify partnered with Giants of Africa for the inaugural festival, in celebration of the non-profit’s 20 years anniversary.

“Unavailable is Davido’s most streamed song on Timeless, and the most exported track among 18 to 24-year-olds, soundtracking many dance videos.

“Davido’s audience is spread out all across the continent, from Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Kenya and Zambia.

“It was a pleasure to partner with Giants of Africa particularly for the closing concert where the audience got to experience some of Africa’s top tier talent.

“Africa’s youth are the future, and we are excited to continue to support them, through partnerships such as this one,” she said.

Muhutu-Remy noted that Savage, known as the queen of Afrobeats, also has a pan-African audience as her Spotify listeners are mostly from Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana and Uganda.

She said Koroba was her most streamed song on Spotify, followed by Ma Lo, while Stamina remained her top exported track among 18 to 35-year-olds.

“Tiwa’s performance at the Giant of Africa festival showed why she is still the undisputed queen of Afrobeats,” she said.

Muhutu-Remy claims that the majority of Rwanda’s Melodie’s Spotify listeners are in East Africa, with Kenya being the country that streams his music the most frequently, followed by Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Burundi.

She noted that South African Tyla, a Spotify Africa RADAR artiste, had her most streamed track as Getting Late, followed by Girl Next Door.

She said that, according to Spotify data, Nigeria streams Tyla’s music more frequently than any other country, followed by Kenya, Ghana, and Tanzania, then her own country.

South African rapper K.O recently faced criticism from a Twitter user who accused him of being a thief and a greedy artist. The incident occurred after K.O’s appearance on The Sobering Podcast, where he shared valuable insights into what it takes to succeed in the music industry.

The rapper emphasized the importance of talent, hard work, timing, and luck. However, Tyla Ally, the Twitter user, didn’t agree with K.O’s views and slammed him for not helping others to achieve success in the music industry.

Tyla argued that what worked for K.O might not work for everyone and called on established artists to support and promote upcoming talents instead of exploiting them.

Furious at the accusation, K.O fired back at Tyla, defending his actions and asserting that he has indeed supported other artists with his own money. He revealed that despite investing in several artists, he hasn’t made a profit yet, proving that he’s driven by a selfless desire to uplift others rather than greedy motives.

This clash between K.O and Tyla Ally highlights the complexities of the music industry and the differing opinions on how established artists should support aspiring talents. It sheds light on the challenges faced by artists like K.O, who sacrifice their resources to help others without any guarantee of returns.

“I’ve sacrificed my hard earned money investing in artists and haven’t made it back yet, I hate losing money! Yet here I am doing this shit selflessly to this day! Fact check with the artists around me if I took anything of their sound since you know everything,” the SA star replied.
