Falz

In 2020, Folarin Falana popularly known as Falz, a Nigerian Singer and activist, had a street named after him in Lagos Island.

The 30-year-old singer announced this in an Instagram post with a picture of himself standing at the beginning of the street.

The picture revealed that his street name is Falz Falana Lane.

Banky W

Popular musician Bankole Wellington also known as Banky W finds himself on the list as well. The celebrity has got a street named after him on the island in Lagos state Nigeria.

Ace Nigerian music producer, Olumide Ogunlade, better known as ID Cabasa, has revealed why Grammy Award-winning singer Burna Boy is not the biggest artiste in Nigeria.

In an interview with Premium Times, the music star said every generation and season always has someone who is the arrowhead and it doesn’t necessarily mean that the person is the best among their peers.

He said,

“I can’t say Burna Boy is the biggest artiste in Nigeria. We have Davido, Wizkid, and Fireboy doing crazy numbers I. We have Ckay, who we should not disrespect, especially with his numbers. We have a whole lot of these guys doing crazy numbers out there.

Even by next year, we will be celebrating some other young artists. We didn’t mention Kizz Daniel, whose song is the biggest right now that everyone is buzzing with.”

Illbliss, also known by his stage name iLLBLISS, is a Nigerian rapper, entrepreneur, and proprietor of “The Goretti Company,” a talent management company that helped launch the careers of many artists, including Phyno and Chidinma.

Phyno has been consistent for over a decade now since he came around, practically basking on longevity and originality with Igbo rap to promote cultural orientation and preservation.

Phyno is considered the pop luminary who took elements of their culture and reimagined it for the future, although Nigga Raw now known as Mr Raw tried but Phyno conquered and became a global superstar.

The late Michael Aboh, one-half of the well-known musical duo Zule Zoo, was laid to rest in Benue State.

On Saturday, June 4, 2022, Mike—as he was affectionately known—passed away while having a bath.

On Friday, July 22, 2022, he was laid to rest in his rural home in Benue State’s Kwande Local Government Area amid tributes and tears.

Along with other prominent celebrities, his partner Al-Hassan Ibrahim, called Ibro of Zule Zoo, and actor Abu Chris Gbakann were present to pay their final respects to the late “Kerewa” crooner.

The Nigerian musician and pioneer of Afrobeats, Fela Kuti, constructed a shrine for himself where he held performances and recorded music.

Due to Fela’s political involvement in the 1970s, the military government had this shrine, now known as the “Old Afrika Shrine,” demolished.

Then he relocated to Mushin’s Empire Hotel, also known as the Kalakuta Republic or the Afrika Shrine. As a result of repeated government raids, this was completely destroyed in 1977.

In honour of Fela’s passing, his son Femi Kuti erected a new Afrika Shrine in October 2000. Since then, it has become into a popular tourist destination for aficionados of Afrobeats worldwide.

The new shrine, which is located in the Alausa environment of Ikeja, Lagos State, houses some of the best art and musical performances in Lagos. It has become like home for Afro-beat lovers and has also served as a great location for emerging artists to shoot their videos and host their shows.

Run My Race – Burna Boy (2013)

Prior to his performance in Felabration 2013 where he shocked the crowd by performing in his underwear, Burna Boy shot the video for Run My Race at The New Afrika Shrine.

He credits Fela, whom he has frequently cited as his role model, for providing the inspiration for the song, which was directed by Clarence Peters.

Therefore, he chose to film the video at the shrine. The video was able to depict both the shrine’s nightlife and the net where the female dancers perform.

Jaiye- Jaiye – Wizkid ft Femi Kuti (2013)

The accompanying video for Wizkid’s Jaiye Jaiye, which earned widespread acclaim, was shot at the new Afrika Shrine. The video, which was directed by Sesan, was nominated for a Nigerian entertainment award.

This video was able to depict both the stunning surroundings and scenes within the new Afrika Shrine. The video was released on October 26th, 2013.

Eruku Sa’Ye Po – Sean Tizzle (2015)

Sean Tizzle released the video for his song Eruku Sa’Ye Po on November 1st, 2015; it was filmed at The New Afrika Shrine.

The video included scenes from the annual festival as well as shots of the shrine’s exterior, the surrounding area, and street vendors.

Additionally, it provided a brief peek of the stage, which appeared slightly different because of the lighting effects that were added to the footage.

Manya – MUT4Y ft Wizkid (2017)

This music video, which was directed by Director Q and produced by MUT4Y, transported spectators to the centre of the new Afrika Shrine.

The visuals gave us a close-up view of practically every area of the shrine, including the artwork on the walls, the stage, and daily shrine activities like drink sellers selling drinks, talking drums, and traditional dancers moving to the music.

Several famous people appeared in the song video, including the Senegalese-American artist Akon.

Ma Lo- Tiwa Savage ft Wizkid (2017)

In 2017, Tiwa Savage dropped the video for her hit single ‘Ma Lo’ which features Wizkid and Spellz.

The song which is one of the tracks off her ‘Sugarcane’ album is a JM Films production, directed by Meji Alabi.

Tiwa’s and Wizkid’s chemistry in the video had people speculating about their relationship lives. The colourful video features the singers all over each other with dancers in the background.

Nigerian-French singer, songwriter, and recording artist Bukola Elemide, professionally known as Asa, has been slammed with a lawsuit over the song titled “IDG” which features Afrofusion superstar Wizkid.

Asa has been sued by music producer Tempoe over copyright infringement of a song titled ‘IDG,’ featuring Afrobeats star Wizkid, and ‘Love Me Or Give Me Red Wine.’ Both tracks are off her latest studio album, ‘V.’

The lawsuit filed against Asa has producer P.Prime, Apple Music’s Platoon, and distribution company Rue 11 in it. The songs ‘IDG’ and ‘Love Me Or Give Me Red Wine’ have been yanked off all streaming platforms because of the lawsuit.

Olamide Adedeji, commonly known as Olamide, posted a profound message on Instagram a few hours after internet users accused him of being responsible for rising singer Portable’s inappropriate online behaviour.

Since hitting the limelight in December 2021, Portable has been embroiled one scandal after another.

The Zazuu performer reportedly claimed to be the founder of the Lagos-based cult groups One Million Boys and Ajah Boys.

However, he retracted his statement after Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police, commanded a probe into his assertion.

The ‘Zazuu’ crooner generated angry reactions from Nigerians who called him out for his brutal behaviour and unbridled tongue that would lead him to jail.

While trying to retrace his steps, Portable denied his earlier statement, which was captured in a video, where he emphatically claimed he created the infamous one million boys.

He wrote:

This has come to an end that I have to voice out… please everyone I wana let you know that I didn’t meant to campaign for APC it was a show they told that am going to before I saw myself in APC office and as a man no need to worry I gats to do the job since it involved money . And what I meant by 1million boys is meant 1million followers . People are threatening my life ooo you should all look into this
