“I’m sad. I have fantastic memories of my time at the club. I spent two very good years there,” he said before the recent 2-0 victory over the Blues. “I won’t return there. I think [Frank] Lampard will do a very good job.”

We are aware Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid, is still a huge supporter of Ancelotti but is willing to think about the club’s future at the conclusion of the season, especially given that Los Blancos are finding it difficult to compete with Barcelona for first place in La Liga.

Ancelotti looks to have made his sentiments quite obvious, and given the Italian’s admiration, he is likely to stay at the Bernabeu if he so chooses, especially if the team goes on to win yet another Champions League.

According to CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues, Carlo Ancelotti is a candidate to become Brazil’s next permanent manager.

Mano Menezes, who has been in temporary charge of the squad since Tite left his position at the end of 2022, has been often linked to the vacant Brazil coaching position in recent weeks.

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is set to captain Brazil in their debut game under interim head coach Ramon Menezes.

Casemiro has led his country 10 times for his former manager Tite over the past several years, so this won’t be his first time. Being given the armband for the first game in a new era, even if it is temporary, is a big step.

One of the favourite teams to win the World Cup in Qatar, which kicks off on Sunday, is the Three Lions, while Brazil is the bookmaker’s favourite.

Everton Ribeiro, Neymar, Gabriel Jesus, Vinicius Junior, Antony, Richarlison, Raphinha, Rodrygo, Martinelli, and Pedro are all members of Brazil’s squad, which has an exceptional amount of attacking potential.

“Alexander-Arnold has to be there – because he’s among the best ones. “Kane is a good player too. You have a good team, not just in terms of names but in terms of players who have trained well and are ready to play at a World Cup – or to play for the Brazilian national team.

“I’d say those two [Kane and Alexander-Arnold], but there are more. “There’s a lot of quality in the England team. You have a lot of quality.”

The last couple of World Cups has been disappointing for Brazil with the national team losing 7-1 to Germany in the 2014 semi-finals before being knocked out in the quarter-finals in 2018 by Belgium.

But Carlos is hopeful of a successful tournament under Tite, the former Brazil left-back added:

“The Brazil national team, both men’s and women’s, has always maintained a joyful atmosphere.

“They should understand that’s the only way to keep people happy, enjoying a great World Cup, having fun and bringing great joy to this country; Brazil, a football country. We haven’t won it for a long time, now it’s time to win the trophy. It’s a very special moment for football.”

When asked if the current Brazil team is as good as the team in the early 2000s, Carlos said: “As soon as they win a World Cup, I’ll tell you.”

Liverpool forward, Roberto Firmino, has reacted to missing out on a place in Brazil’s 2022 FIFA World Cup squad.

Tite, the manager of Brazil, revealed his 26-man squad for Qatar on Monday, which included several Premier League players.

Some of the Premier League players that made the squad are Chelsea’s Thiago Silva, Everton’s Richarlison and Arsenal forwards Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli.

Nevertheless, Firmino was not included in the team despite his impressive performances this season.

In response, Firmino expressed faith in God’s plan for him in a message on his Instagram on Tuesday.

Brazil manager Tite has hailed Gabriel Martinelli and explained the late decision to include him in the country’s World Cup squad, while Arsenal fans think Neymar was surprised by his call-up.

The 21-year-old has been in outstanding form for the Gunners this campaign, netting five goals and providing two assists in the Premier League to help his side top the table after 13 matches.

Despite his impressive performances, Martinelli, who has only three Brazil caps, only seemed to have a remote chance of joining Tite’s team after missing the international matches in September.

But on Monday it was confirmed that the Arsenal star would be on the plane to Qatar later this month, with Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino and Atletico Madrid’s Matheus Cunha missing out.

Martinelli will be one of the most inexperienced players in Brazil’s squad, with only Juventus central defender Gleison Bremer and Flamengo attacker Pedro boasting fewer caps.

But despite his limited appearances, Tite has complete faith in the winger’s talent and believes that his direct running and capacity to take people on have earned him a spot in the squad.

Speaking at a press conference after naming his squad for the World Cup, the Brazil head coach was asked why he picked Martinelli and replied: ‘We like Martinelli’s aggressiveness. He’s one of the top players at Arsenal, the first-placed team in the Premier League.

‘He’s good in one-v-ones, he’s very rapid in transitions and he’s been playing at a consistently good level.’

Martinelli will have tough competition for playing time from some big names, including Neymar, Richarlison, Raphinha, Antony, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Gabriel Jesus.

As has become custom among Brazil players, many of them filmed themselves reacting to the announcement and Arsenal fans noticed that Neymar seemed a little taken aback by Martinelli’s selection.

The PSG player was tight-lipped as each name was given out, but when Martinelli’s name was called, he lifted his eyebrows and appeared astonished before nodding slightly in agreement.

Footage of Neymar’s reaction went viral among Arsenal supporters, one tweeted: ‘Martinelli is coming for his spot soon, that’s why [he looks shocked].’
