In the aftermath of the tragic murders of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and celebrity chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane in Durban last February, a family member sheds light on the circumstances surrounding the suspects.

The family of four of the seven individuals apprehended in connection with the homicides revealed that two of the accused fled to Eswatini due to an ongoing taxi war, seeking refuge from potential police violence.

Speaking to newsmen, an unnamed relative expressed relief that the arrests may have spared the fugitives from encountering the same fate as some of their family members, allegedly shot by the police.

The South African Police Services (SAPS) disclosed on Tuesday, February 27, the apprehension of six suspects linked to the murders, with the seventh arrested the following day.

Disputing claims of their involvement in the assassination of media personalities, the family member emphasized that the two suspects were escaping the repercussions of a taxi war, which tragically claimed the lives of eight family members.

The relative recounted how their family decided to retaliate after the deaths, prompting police intervention and subsequent pursuit of their children, leading them to seek refuge in Eswatini.

Allegations arose that police threats drove the suspects into hiding, with warnings of armed confrontations and potentially lethal force from law enforcement

Although the men went into hiding four months before the killings of AKA and Tibz, the family remains ambiguous regarding their children’s culpability for the crimes.

Following the passing of rap artist Kiernan AKA Forbes, Wish Eatery will remain closed permanently. Kiernan and his companion Tibz were slain in front of the restaurant on February 10th.

The eatery is located in Durban on Florida Road.

In a formal statement posted on social media, the director, Philani Kweyama, said that following the incident, the restaurant saw a “serious decline in business,” leading to its permanent closure.

“In light of the tragic event on our doorstep we have experienced a severe downturn in business which leaves the directors with no choice but to close the business permanently as the brand equity of Wish On Florida has been deeply hindered.”

“Wish On Florida was certainly a wish come true for two black entrepreneurs who dedicated the past three years to building a successful black-owned restaurant in the heart of Durban, winning the Emerging Tourism Entrepreneur Award at the Durban Tourism Business Awards in 2022,” he said.

The statement continues: “We would also like to thank the various brands and suppliers who’ve been part of the Wish On Florida family since we opened our doors. With very little knowledge of the industry, you walked us through the business of hospitality and delivered exceptional service and for that, we will forever be grateful.

“Last, but not least – our staff members who are the fabric that held Wish On Florida together – this was not an easy decision. Our efforts to keep our doors open to ensure the security of your employment has been difficult, and unfortunately, the above-mentioned has led to an untimely farewell.”

Just a month after AKA’s death, Nadia Nakai claims she still has memories of her late boyfriend, Kiernan, also known as Forbes.

The rapper was killed on February 10th in front of the Wish restaurant on Florida Road in Durban and meanwhile, the shooting also struck Kiernan’s companion that evening, Tabello “Tibz,” who was also pronounced dead.

The two icons’ deaths were lamented throughout the industry.

The rapper’s fiancée Nadia sent a heartfelt tribute to him on Instagram a month after his passing and she also claimed that his death might have been averted and that it seems like yesterday.

Meanwhile, Lynn Forbes also penned Nadia Nakai a heartfelt letter. AKA and Nadia had a lovely loving relationship, and his passing devastated many of the family members.

Lynn Forbes thanked Bragga on Instagram for loving her baby before he passed away.
