When Flavour and Baaba Maal step into the same studio, magic is almost inevitable, and Afroculture is living proof.

From its very first beat, the record feels like an awakening, a pulse that draws you in with its blend of traditional percussion, spiritual chants, and cross-border energy.

It’s not just a song; it’s a dialogue between generations, between Nigeria and Senegal, between the past and the present.

Flavour & Baaba Maal Unite Africa’s Sound on “Afroculture”

The track opens like a sunrise over the Sahel drums rolling, voices rising, and then Baaba Maal’s unmistakable call pierces through the rhythm.

Moments later, Flavour joins in with his warm, highlife tone, and suddenly, two worlds become one sound. Sung in Igbo, Pulaar, and English, their verses weave a story of identity, unity, and pride, a reminder that despite borders and languages, Africa’s heartbeat is collective.

The chorus soars with the kind of anthemic power only these two veterans can summon, bold, hopeful, and deeply spiritual. Flavour’s production is meticulous yet organic: the talking drums converse with guitar riffs, the harmonies breathe, and nothing feels forced.

There’s a sophistication to the arrangement that respects both artists’ roots while creating something refreshingly modern.

Visually, TG Omori’s direction elevates Afroculture into an experience. The music video flows between the earthy textures of Senegal’s drum circles and the festive streets of Nigeria, drawing a vivid map of shared ancestry.

The choreography, a seamless blend of traditional and modern dance, tells its own story of continuity, of how movement and rhythm have always been languages of connection across the continent.

For Flavour, this collaboration feels like a return to purpose, a continuation of his lifelong mission to keep African highlife alive and evolving. For Baaba Maal, it’s another chapter in his decades-long journey of using music as a tool for unity and social consciousness.

Together, they’ve crafted something that feels timeless, a song that belongs as much in a village festival as it does on a global stage.

In an era where Afrobeats often leans toward pop gloss, Afroculture stands tall as a reminder of the continent’s depth, proof that music can still carry memory, meaning, and magic. It’s rooted yet boundless, proud yet inviting.

When the final note fades, what lingers is not just the rhythm but the resonance, the feeling that you’ve just witnessed Africa speaking to itself, and to the world, in perfect harmony.

Celebrated Nigerian music video director ThankGod Omori, popularly known as TG Omori, has sparked conversation online after disclosing that he has chosen to embrace celibacy.

The award-winning cinematographer shared his thoughts on his X handle, hinting at how the lifestyle change has brought unexpected peace to his life.

“Since I took my oath of celibacy half of my problems were solved,” he wrote.

His revelation immediately triggered a flurry of mixed reactions. While some fans doubted whether he was being serious, others admitted they were curious about adopting the same path in hopes of enjoying the benefits he claimed.

This isn’t the first time TG Omori has opened up candidly about his personal life. Earlier this year, he stunned many when he revealed the heavy toll his ongoing battle with kidney disease has taken on his finances.

On social media, the director lamented the jaw-dropping amount he has spent on treatment in just six months—an amount he compared to the cost of multiple luxury vehicles.

“Saw my 6months health expenses, Omo 2 GLE and one small C300 bro! Health is wealth true true.”

He further reflected on the harsh realities facing everyday Nigerians dealing with similar health challenges.

“Dialysis is about 100k plus per session, sometimes you need 3 sessions in a week, minimum wage is 70k. Knowing this facts brought me tears in the hospital cause no hope for the common man.”

TG Omori’s honest reflections have once again put him at the center of public discussion, with many applauding his openness while also highlighting the pressing need for better healthcare support in Nigeria.

The countdown to the 2025 edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has officially begun, with this year’s competition tipped to be one of the fiercest in the history of the continental showcase.

On Wednesday, August 27, the International Committee of AFRIMA, in partnership with the African Union Commission, released the nominees’ list, spotlighting African music heavyweights and rising stars across the continent.

Global Afrobeats icons Davido and Burna Boy will face off against Congolese legend Fally Ipupa, Moroccan hitmaker El Grande Toto, South African DJ Maphorisa, and Egyptian superstar Amr Diab. They will also compete with a fresh wave of emerging acts including Shallipopi, Himra, Moliy, Ayra Starr, Tanzanian crooner Juma Jux, and Senegal’s Mia Guissé.

Organizers revealed that AFRIMA 2025 received a record-breaking 10,717 submissions, the highest in its 12-year history. After 10 days of rigorous screening, a 13-member jury trimmed the entries down to 343 nominees spread across 40 categories, representing Africa’s regions and its diaspora.

Speaking on the unveiling, AFRIMA jury member Delani Makhalima hailed the growth of African music: “For years our voices were not heard, but today African music is global. This is AFRIMA, the biggest music entity on the continent.”

The 2025 awards ceremony is scheduled to hold in Lagos from November 25 to 30. The week-long programme will feature signature events such as the AFRIMA Music Village, the Africa Music Business Summit, the Nominees Party, and will climax with the grand finale on November 30.

The prestigious awards night will be broadcast live to audiences in more than 84 countries.

Popular Nigerian music video director, TG Omori, has expressed shock over the staggering amount he has spent on his health in the past six months amid his battle with kidney disease.

Taking to social media, the award-winning cinematographer revealed that his medical bills so far could have bought him two Mercedes-Benz GLE SUVs and a C300.

In a follow-up post, Omori reflected on the harsh realities of managing kidney disease, noting that the cost of dialysis compared to the country’s minimum wage left him in tears.

He wrote:

“Saw my 6months health expenses, Omo 2 GLE and one small C300 bro! Health is wealth true true.

Dialysis is about 100k plus per session, sometimes you need 3 sessions in a week, minimum wage is 70k. Knowing this facts brought me tears in the hospital cause no hope for the common man.”

Beyond his personal struggles, TG Omori announced he is working on his first major eyewear design, with part of the proceeds dedicated to supporting kidney patients who cannot afford dialysis.

Omori, one of Nigeria’s most sought-after video directors, has received an outpouring of sympathy from fans and colleagues, many of whom commended his decision to turn his health challenge into an opportunity to help others.

Controversial Nigerian activist, Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has publicly challenged miracle-performing pastors to heal the ailing music video director TG Omori, who is currently battling kidney failure.

On Tuesday, August 27, TG Omori opened up about his struggle with kidney failure and shared that his only brother had donated a kidney to him in a desperate attempt to save his life. Unfortunately, the kidney transplant was not successful.

Despite the setback, TG Omori remains optimistic, with support and prayers from fans and family members.

Addressing the situation, VeryDarkMan mentioned that when he previously questioned the authenticity of miracle pastors, some accused him of being against the Christian faith. He has now called on these pastors to prove their miraculous abilities by healing TG Omori in front of their congregations.

This challenge has sparked widespread reactions online, with many awaiting the response from the pastors.
