Despite his team’s 2-1 loss to Algeria on Tuesday, Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro praised his players for their Performance.

Terem Moffi’s goal for the West Africans gave them the lead in the ninth minute, but the Desert Foxes responded through goals from Riyad Mahrez and Youcef Atal.

Despite the Super Eagles going down to their third defeat in five matches under him, Peseiro remains unperturbed with the outcome of the game.

Peseiro told NFF TV:

“It was a good game, the camping showed the quality of our players and their collective effort. It was a hard match, Algeria is a good team. Our players try to do what I ask them to do in training, It is possible you lose in football, I’m sad we lost. I don’t like to lose matches, but I am very happy with the performance of my players. They did well in the game.”

Peseiro, however, thinks that in future games, his team will need to strengthen their offensive play. He said:

“We didn’t do well in attack at times, I think we can do better. We can improve our game generally,” added the former Saudi Arabia and Venezuela coach. We do well defensively but we can do more offensively and control the ball more,”

Following the team’s comeback victory over the Super Eagles on Tuesday night, Algeria’s head coach, Djamel Belmadi, praised his players.

At the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran, the Desert Foxes came back to win the game 2-1.

The two-time African champions went behind on nine minutes after Terem Moffi profited from slack defending to give the Super Eagles the lead.

Captain Riyad Mahrez equalised from the penalty spot three minutes before the break, with Youcef Atal netting the winning goal in the 70th minute. Belmadi heaped plaudits on his players for fighting back to win the game.

Belmadi told a post-match press conference, he said:

“Nigeria are a good team, it was a real test. We played against them three times under my tenure. We beat them three times. They wanted to take their revenge, Conceding a goal can break your momentum. We lacked vigilance, I don’t like it because I insist on it. We stuck to our plan. We relocated and reworked this team.

“I like what we saw in the second half in midfield. Normally, there is everything you need to have a seat and a way to play. We have what it takes with these three players. I thank my staff. We are one. I am their representative because we need a voice, but we are on the same wavelength.”
