The prestigious video award show took place in the early hours of Monday in New Jersey, where excellence was celebrated.

The top music videos of the year are recognized during an awards ceremony at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, and 2022 was no different.

The event, which began in the early hours of Monday, August 29 (8:00 pm ET), was hosted by American stars LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj, and Jack Harlow, and featured an incredible night of music, fashion, and glamour.

According to Variety, Drake and his management made the choice to withdraw from the 2022 Grammy Nominations.

The rapper was nominated for two Grammy Awards: Best Rap Album (for Certified Lover Boy) and Best Rap Performance (for “Way 2 Sexy“).

Rather than giving a nomination to the recipients of the sixth-most votes, as the Academy did when it suddenly decided to expand the top four categories from eight to 10 last month, the voting for those two rap categories will go forward with just four nominees, presumably because the voting period already has begun; Grammy ballots were posted for voting members on Monday morning.

Other recent changes to the Grammy nominees for 2022 include Marilyn Manson losing one of his nominations (Best Rap Song for Kanye West’s “Jail”) due to modifications to the songwriting credits, and Linda Chorney receiving a nomination for Best American Roots Song.

In addition, credited Sour songwriters Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff, and Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent) were not nominated for Album of the Year.

Drake has previously expressed dissatisfaction with the Grammy Awards and the Recording Academy.

Last year, after the Weeknd received zero nominations for the 2021 Grammys, Drake wrote in an Instagram Story,

“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artist that exist now and the ones that come after.”

He continued,

“It’s like a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just won’t change their ways. The other day I said [the Weeknd] was a lock for either album or song of the year along with countless other reasonable assumptions and it just never goes that way. This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up overtime and pass on to the generations to come.”

After skipping the Grammys in 2017, Drake chastised the Recording Academy for nominating “Hotline Bling” in rap categories despite stating his hit was a pop song.

He also said, “We’ve been conditioned to think that this is the true award for our accomplishments.”

Drake later attended the Grammy Awards in 2019, but declined to perform during the ceremony. His microphone was shut off during his acceptance speech when he won Best Rap Song for “God’s Plan” that year.

The nomination list of the 2021 American Music Award has been unveiled as the Canadian songwriter, and record producer Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, known professionally as The Weeknd, and some other top foreign artists made the list.

The finalists for the 2021 American Music Awards, marketed as the world’s largest fan-voted awards ceremony, have been released by ABC and MRC Live & Alternative.

Recall Mp3bullet.ng reported that One of the female American rappers Cardi B will be the host of the 2021 American music award, which is a major honor for her.

This year, the program is introducing a few new categories, including Favorite Trending Song, which celebrates TikTok candidates and showcases the year’s most popular tracks. Favorite Gospel Artist and Favorite Latin Duo or Group was added to the mix as well.

On the list of the nomination, Olivia Rodrigo who is an American artist is the most nominated artist, with seven nominations for her and her first album titled “Sour“, including Artist of the Year and Best New Artist, while The Weeknd is just behind her with six nominations.

Bad Bunny, Doja Cat, and Giveon have been given five nominations each just to round out the frontrunners.

The AMAs will air live on ABC on Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. PT from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Nobody will deny the fact that the Nigerian music industry is dominated by the male gender and the gap among male and female artistes is appalling.

Cutting across gender bias, the propensity to favor one gender over another, therefore, comes to our controversial debate as to why the Nigerian music industry is gender-biased.

Female top artists are no match to the male counterparts, not even close in terms of streams, awards, discography, and so on, the least streamed male artists can go head to head with the most streamed female Nigerian artists.

The most streamed project by female Nigerian artistes is not a quarter of the most-streamed male project.

This is a very delicate topic that needs careful evaluation and should be reconsidered, a lot of times we’ve seen some artists raise alarm on the issue but was overly abolished.

It’s been over a decade of motion yet no reasonable margins for Nigerian females.

As it is in many African countries, being a woman in Nigeria is quite daunting; there are practices steeped in anachronistic culture norms, asymmetrical power relations that sometimes mean that the woman is denied a seat at the table, and lots of often-misinterpreted doctrines to contend with.

At MP3bullet, we’re pleased to retouch the conversation and share more insights as it’s becoming pervasive and entrenched in the music industry.

First and foremost let’s highlight the case study with the work ethics of the female Nigeria artists, such as Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Niniola, Waje, Omawumi, Teni, Tems, and so on, the more reason they work tirelessly and consistently hard are prolly because of the fear of being completely erased off-the-radar, while their male counterparts do little or absolutely nothing and yet will be given due attention because of the lingering stereotype.

In an industry with over twenty plus male popping artists and yet we can’t boast of like six popping female artists in the same industry, that’s quite below par and practically disgusting, the female can’t stand alone for too long without attaching themselves to find balance and relevance.

Imagine if Tiwa Savage was a man or perhaps Yemi Alade, weird but yeah! Do you think they will still rate them below the usual ranks?

I don’t think so! the Nigeria music industry and its entirety need to do better and embrace gender equality to foster the movement.

Now let’s talk about US/UK music industry, their artists are rated equally and according to their work, artists such as Beyonce, Rihanna, Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, Doja Cat, Ella Mai, H.E.R, Taylor Swifts, Normani and so on, there is no such thing like gender stereotype, in fact, their female enjoy more attention and buzz than their male counterparts.

On the other hand, Nigerian media and show promoters, need to play an important role in balancing it, more especially the show promoters and organizers by allowing female artists to headline a concert and other gigs thereby creating an atmosphere that will favor their artistry, it will yield more attention towards them.

At this point is not new that the stereotype is deepening, and needs to be addressed in finding a lasting solution to what has gradually turned into norms.
