Leading the pack is Drake, whose decade-long run of streaming dominance sees him claim the top spot. Close behind is Taylor Swift at No. 2, making her the highest-ranked female artist on the chart.

At No. 3 is Future, whose influence on modern trap music has translated into billions of streams worldwide. The top five is rounded out by YoungBoy Never Broke Again and Bad Bunny, both of whom have built remarkably loyal fan bases in the streaming era.

American pop superstar Taylor Swift has added another landmark achievement to her remarkable career, becoming the youngest woman ever inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The 36-year-old singer received the prestigious honour during the 2026 Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony held in New York City on Thursday night. Joining her for the special occasion were her parents, Andrea and Scott Swift, as well as her partner, Travis Kelce.

One of the most memorable moments of the evening came during Swift’s acceptance speech, where she reflected on the sacrifices her family made to help turn her songwriting dreams into reality.

Growing emotional as she looked back on her journey, the Grammy-winning artist recalled how her parents relocated the family from Pennsylvania to Nashville after recognising that her passion for writing songs was more than a childhood hobby.

While describing songwriting as a natural calling, Swift acknowledged that the decision to move was far more challenging for her family than it was for her. Nashville, often regarded as the heart of America’s songwriting culture, ultimately became the foundation upon which her career was built.

Fighting back tears as she addressed her parents during the speech, she said:

“You’re the reason I’m here tonight.”

At the summit of the 2025 rankings sits The Weeknd, who emerged as the highest-paid musician in the world, earning $298 million USD pre-tax. His earnings were anchored by the monumental After Hours Til Dawn Tour, which surpassed $1 billion USD in gross revenue, alongside strong global sales and streaming performance from his hit record Hurry Up Tomorrow.

The Canadian superstar also saw a major boost to his net worth following a landmark $200 million USD catalogue deal with Lyric Capital, a move that allowed him to retain creative control while unlocking immense financial value.

Nigerian music continues to break boundaries on the global stage, and this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) is no exception. The 2025 VMAs have officially rolled out their full list of nominations, with Afrobeats firmly in the spotlight and some of Nigeria’s biggest stars earning major recognition.

Leading the Nigerian contingent is Burna Boy, who secured three nominations across multiple categories. As part of its 10th-anniversary celebration, Apple Music has released a comprehensive list of its 500 most-streamed songs over the past decade, with British superstar Ed Sheeran claiming the No. 1 spot with his 2017 global smash, “Shape of You.”

The chart-topping single outperformed major hits like The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” and Drake’s “God’s Plan,” which came in at second and third place, respectively.

Since its release, Shape of You has set several streaming records, including the highest number of first-day plays on Apple Music, and it held firm atop the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 consecutive weeks. The song later earned Sheeran a Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance in 2018.
