Several Nigerian Artists have achieved considerable success on both the home and international music stages over the years collaborating with International rappers on several occasions.

Some of these artists have made their mark on the international music industry by producing a one-hit single that has earned widespread acclaim from a global audience, resulting in premium recognition for the artist’s brand.

Another option is to collaborate with foreign artists to create a magnificent hit song that will be heard around the world. This could be a song in which the foreign artist is featured or vice versa.

In this list, Mp3bullet.ng explores the times Nigerian Artists collaborated with Hip-Hop artists to make magics

While he released the unifying collaborative 2 Kings, alongside his brother, friend, and collaborator, Olamide, his third album, Deal With It was where he truly crowned himself.

As the window of his superstardom slightly slowed down, Phyno released an impressive album, which merged his famed gritty Rap side with his Oliver De Coque-esque side to produce some timeless bops.

Sadly, the album was slept on outside the South-East. But Ezege never stopped cooking.

He quickly moved to consolidate two things: a more contemporary sing-songy style, drenched in Afro-swing and more experimental dabbles in traditional Igbo pop genres like Ogene, Egedege, and Ekpili.

The result of his journey so far has resulted in his fourth solo album, which comes with yet another impressive album title, Something To Live For.

In a lot of ways, that title reflects Phyno’s current standing in Nigerian music: a young OG on the fourth of his nine lives in the Nigerian music industry. Money is not an issue anymore, neither is a thirst for stardom.

P-square as a duo has created a legacy that can never be overlooked, no doubt, they have contributed so much to the Nigerian music industry, but how huge they would have been if they did not break up?

Nigerian Hip-hop twins, Peter and Paul Okoye of the popular stage name Psquare dominated the Nigerian music industry for many years.

Their split in 2017 got many fans hoping and praying that the twins will go back to making music together as one.

Even before afrobeat became widely accepted, their musical projects have literally broadened Afrobeats locally and a bit of international audience with the genre spotlight that placed them on the verge of becoming a global powerhouse or reference, P-square were at the forefront of the culture alongside 2Baba as the mainstream musicians.

Let’s look at their contributions to the birth of a new generation, and the importance of still having them as duo, what transpired between them to break up is not our business here, this conversation is centred around the impact their presence could make.

Is their breakup a menace to the culture? Yes, No or maybe…let’s discuss

P-square Splits; A menace to the Culture?

Over the years, they practically put in all their pains & struggles to come up with such a world-class and timeless projects, introducing the first choreographic settings on stage to thrill audience, bridging the gap between Nigerian music to foreign sounds, sampling hits songs from international pop stars perfectly, such as Celine Dion, Nathan, Harlem World and Kelly Price.

They singlehandedly set the standard in stage performance, making it look more creatively appealing, at a point they were refer to Nigerian Usher and Michael Jackson, they evolved over time with different concept, carving the map wonderfully even in the CD’s era.

Now, let’s talk about the effect of their breakup to the culture directly or indirectly even though they may not get the same buzz as their early career journey.

* Divisiveness of fanbase

In early 2010’s, they were able to sell out various venues with huge numbers capacity, (5k, 10k, 20k) including sold-out stadiums in some African countries, thus making the culture gain more importance and relevance, this is what they can’t achieve in their solo career

* Endorsement

Initially as a duo, P-square was one of the most acts with the highest and biggest endorsement in Nigeria music industry, they were first to hit a multi-million Naira deal with telecommunications company (Glo), staying together would have skyrocket them to the next level and thus a plus to the culture.

T.I who took to his Instagram to send a birthday shoutout to 50 Cent and challenged the “Many Men” rapper to a battle of hits

“For your birthday, I offer you a challenge, sir,” T.I said. “Pull your ass up with 20 of your records, man. Sit across from me, man. And get this work, man.”

As he continued, The rapper brought up the 2007 record sales battle between 50 Cent and Kanye West, in which 50 was severely outnumbered by West’s first week sales for his Graduation album. ’Ye brought in 957,000 units, while 50’s Curtis sold 691,000 copies.

T.I told him that he doesn’t care if he brings Dr. Dre, Eminem, and 50’s G-Unit Records crew as well.

50 Cent in response took to Instagram to reply T.I with,

yo somebody passed TI the weed they gave smokey in Friday. LOL

T.I who is well known for his song, ‘Live your life’ featuring Rihanna is someone who always speaks out against racism. In a video, he posted on his Instagram, Police can be seen assaulting young men of color.

In protest against the event, he wrote,

“Alright, so THIS IS WHY young people of color say “FUCK THE POLICE” y’all some racist, hateful, disrespectful cowards who really just jealous of young people because they doing more with their youth & their talents than you did with yours. If I’ve learned anything from the mass hysteria caused by this viral pandemic is… KARMA IS KING & NOBODY IS EXEMPT‼️ You may be in a powerful position today… but the future is a fickle mistress who knows no exemptions.

He continues by saying,

The laws of reciprocity ARE INDEED IN ORDER‼️ Watch when your sons, daughters, nieces,& nephews see who you REALLY ARE, how they treat you & think of you. I’m wondering if they (The Policemen in this video) know that the young people who travel to Miami Beach for spring break spend money on food, beverages, hotels, & entertainment contributes to tourism which allows the small businesses on the beach to pay taxes which in turn pays their undeserving salaries??? I say until they learn how to treat young people of color with respect.

He then finally concludes by telling his Fans to go somewhere else for their vacations, adding that the only way of gaining attention in America is by losing your life or your money.

..FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO GO FOR SPRING BREAK‼️ That’s THE ONLY WAY THEY GON GET IT… As my brother @davidbanner said long ago… Only 2ways to earn the attention & respect of America… & That’s the loss of LIFE… or the loss of FINANCES… Period‼️ And for the record FUCK ALL THE PIGS IN THIS VIDEO‼️

Are The PSquare Brothers (Rudeboy & Mr. P) Better Off Seperately?

Best African duo of all time is the defunct P-Square. No doubt. They must be Sauti Sol’s role model. Of course, they fell out, and broke up and have since gone solo. Paul as Rudeboy and Peter as Mr. P.

The identical twin brothers, are known all over Africa and beyond form their numerous hit singles, electrifying on-stage performance and their top-notch Videos. They also have some of the best albums of all time (Get Squared and Game Over). And, they’ve done stuffs with many superstars, T.I, Akon Don Jazzy, Dave Scott and more. They do RnB and Afro-Pop, but their versatility isn’t disputable. And their consistency is as 2Baba’s, over the years. And, of course, they are the richest musicians in Africa – when they’re together. They’re always smiling to the bank, and that’s it.

Majority of people want ’em back. Mr. P and Rudeboy ain’t names people wan’ register in their minds, they want P-Square. BUT, due to their endless disputes, they had to move on.

Does it seem like they’re better off now?

Having dropped three singles each as solo, we know they’re both talented, and that PSquare was a collective work.

Mr. P (Peter Okoye) has singles; “Cool It Down,” “For My Head” and “My Way.” While Rudeboy (Paul Okoye) has “Nkenji Keke,” “Fire Fire” and “Somebody Baby.” Let’s not forget Rudeboy just dropped IFAi.

Mr. P exudes a strong RnB persona, which is something the duo did, in their early days. You’ll easily think Mr. P wrote songs like “Say Your Love,” “Am I Still The Special Man,” and “Bring It On.”

On the other hand, Rudeboy settles for the pop side. With jams like “Nkenji Keke” and “Fire Fire,” in you’ll also notice his versatility. Trying out other genres without flopping shit totally.

Both of them have got massive airplays. Mr. P’s most popular being “Cool It Down” and Rudeboy’s being “Fire Fire.” A crisp of both of ’em is what makes up P-Square truly.

BUT, do you see Mr. P getting nominated as “Artist Of The Year,” or Rudeboy’s song as “Song Of The Year”? Their last huge effort together, “Bank Alert” has got more spins than all the songs they’ve released solo. And this is because, we can’t recover from P-Square, that easily. It’ll take years, and many years, for us to accept them as solo artists, that they are now.

They may have retired before we accept ’em.
